No sooner is their vow made than it is tested, however, as the princess of France and three of her ladies arrive in Navarre on a diplomatic mission. Harald Kreutzberg verkörperte damals den Teufel. 1973 in München am Cuvilliéstheater übernahm Peter Fricke seinerseits die Rolle des Teufels und Joachim Bißmeier die des Soldaten. Ausgerechnet bei dem sogenannten "Teufelstanz", mit dem Stravinskys Soldat ein letztes Mal versucht das Ruder herum zu reißen, was ihm vorübergehend auch gelingt, verunglückte Peter Fricke gleich bei der Premiere.
