In his signature satirical and allegorical style, Anatole France crafts a captivating fantasy tale about a mischievous guardian angel who pilfers books from his charge, an archbishop overflowing with theological literature. After indulging in a voracious reading spree, he transforms into a fallen angel, embarking on a quest to find and rally other fallen angels. Together, they concoct a daring plan to challenge the very authority that has dictated their fates, realizing that a revolt is not just necessary but inevitable. As they gear up for battle to reclaim their destiny—and that of ...

In this series we explore the many facets of love through literary talents that span both time and country. Love is good. It’s positive, a source of joy, nourishment and all over goodness. But sometimes other more malevolent forces come to play. They infect that love, they see their form as better. Instinctively we would shy away but sometimes its pull is too powerful, almost attractive. We are drawn closer into the shadows.

Whilst faith can be practiced anywhere religious faith is usually at a church or temple. The stories in this volume are centered both in houses of worship and with those with a strong association to its calling. Of course, short story authors have a determined belief in their undoubted talents to make us look at this subject from different angles. In this volume they take us on literary journeys that are revealing and challenging yet always entertaining.

The novel (original French title -- L'Île des Pingouins) is a satire on human nature. The first publication was in 1908. These penguins are mistaken for humans by the 97-year-old priest, Father Mael, because of his bad eyesight. He baptizes them, and once baptized, they have no choice but to become human. They take on human traits (build civilizations, go to war, etc.). The book is very funny and powerful. (Summary by Michael)
