Er ist Anführer der "verlorenen Jungs“, einer Gruppe von Jungen. Pans Gegenspieler ist der Anführer der Piraten, Captain Hook. Nimmerland ist der Haupthandlungsort an dem Kinder niemals erwachsen werden. Hier wohnen Elfen, Piraten, Indianer, Meerjungfrauen und natürlich Kinder. In Nimmerland muss man nur an etwas glauben, damit es passiert.

Amateur violinist and collector Herman Yorke is overjoyed when he is chosen to play first violin in the Amateur Orchestral Society. In the audience, however, he is distracted by a beautiful woman that is watching him. After several concerts, he decides to approach the woman, but Herman soon discovers that he is the only person who can see her.

A free spirited and mischievous young boy who can fly and never grows up, Peter Pan spends his never-ending childhood having adventures on the mythical island of Neverland as the leader of the Lost Boys, interacting with fairies, pirates, mermaids, Native Americans, and occasionally ordinary children from the world outside Neverland. Peter Pan is a cultural icon.

Window in Thrums - the story of the "untrue son" - is about the fictional village of Thrums. The story and setting are widely acknowledged to be modelled on Barrie's home town of Kirriemuir. It was one of his earlier works which, along with Auld Licht Idylls, also published in 1889. The novel contains many memorable sketches and illuminations of Scottish life at the time, and it paved the way for the rest of Barrie's great career.
