Tribes, Purging and Graham. with James Goodman

  • Riassunto

  • James Goodman takes to the seat this week as Tom’s guest, the polar opposite of what he’s used to, considering he’s a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist. An 8 year serving knight in shining armour for our fantastic NHS, he is a trooper, and has helped more than a thousand patients with their mental health; from OCD and phobias, to anxieties and PTSD. Without people like James, a lot of others wouldn’t be making it as far as they do.

His journey, like all of ours, is incredibly humbling, and relatable for many, as both men quickly pull comparisons on their school years. The two discuss their differing (but under the spotlight) similar experiences of young adulthood and how mob mentality and body image in particular set them on their closely paved paths. They exchange thoughts on their personal experiences with medical professionals as teenagers and young men, as well as holding a strong focus on the catastrophic effects of eating disorders. What makes this podcast so special is that everybody has an opportunity to speak. And for James, someone who is around the clock on the receiving end of other people’s struggles, he really thrives and takes a well needed hour to reflect on his past trauma and triumphs, and how they forged him into the superhero he is today.

This week’s episode of ResetwithTom covers more sensitive topics of mental health. So I’m putting out a trigger warning for bulimia and related eating disorders. If you’re struggling please see the included links in this episode’s description. Love ya’s.
