• Why Do the Right Thing When It Might Not Change Anything? | Hebrews
    Nov 3 2026
When doing the right thing costs you and the outcome remains uncertain, what helps you keep going? You may have stood up for someone, cared for a loved one, or worked for change without knowing whether your efforts made a difference. This Evensong sermon from Christ Church North Adelaide explores the hope offered in the letter to the Hebrews. Some of its faithful witnesses experienced deliverance; others suffered and died. Both are commended for their faith. Their hope reached beyond what they could accomplish or see in their lifetimes. At the centre of that hope is Jesus’ resurrection. The sermon explores the Christian expectation of transformed bodily life and renewed creation, and asks how that future shapes our concern for people today. If bodies and creation matter to God, then practical care, justice and relationships belong at the heart of following Jesus. For those who are weary, grieving or conscious of past failures, the invitation begins with grace: receive forgiveness, ask for help and take another step. Faithfulness does not require us to control the outcome. Whether you are exploring Christianity or have followed Jesus for years, consider what may be holding you back. Bring that honestly to God, remember someone whose faith has helped you, and look for one practical opportunity to care for another person or share why Jesus gives you hope. • Could Your Ordinary Life Show Someone God's Love?
    Nov 3 2026
Who has helped you recognise God's love through an ordinary act of kindness, courage or mercy? And could your own life offer that same encouragement to someone else? This All Saints' Day sermon at Christ Church North Adelaide explores holiness in ordinary lives. Saints are people through whom God's grace becomes visible: people who make peace, practise mercy, seek justice and keep their hearts fixed on God amid human weakness and suffering. Drawing on Jesus' teaching in the Beatitudes and the vision of a diverse multitude gathered before God in Revelation, the sermon widens our sense of belonging. The communion of saints embraces people across nations, cultures and generations, including the living and the departed. Christian unity allows differences to remain, while the holiness of one person can strengthen and encourage others. This vision also gives us a way to remember those who have shaped our lives. Some were quiet and unassuming; some carried heavy burdens. Their example invites gratitude and a renewed attention to God's work in the world around us. Christian hope directs us towards resurrection and the renewal of God's world. Take a moment to remember someone who gave you hope, showed you peace or helped you recognise God's love. Give thanks for them, and consider one practical way you might offer mercy, justice or encouragement to another person this week. Recorded at the All Saints' Day Eucharist at Christ Church North Adelaide on 1 November 2026. • What Does the Armour of God Really Mean? | Ephesians 6
    Oct 26 2026
What does it mean to put on the armour of God? Is Paul describing a way to fight other people, or gifts that help us stand firm in faith and live in peace? This Eucharist sermon from Christ Church North Adelaide explores the spiritual armour in Ephesians 6: truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, faith, salvation and the word of God. It challenges a purely physical picture of armour and asks how these gifts shape our response to conflict, uncertainty and the information we encounter each day. The sermon calls Christians to seek what is true, deepen their relationship with God through prayer, hold fast to the promise of salvation in Christ and resist evil without turning to physical violence. Peace, truth, wisdom, prayer and strength in faith form its concluding invitation. Join us as we reflect on following Jesus with integrity in ordinary life. • How Do We Seek Justice Without Becoming Unjust? | Habakkuk 2
    Oct 26 2026
How do we pursue the justice we long for without becoming unjust ourselves? What can faith offer when wrongdoing seems to succeed and God's promises feel slow? This Evensong sermon from Christ Church North Adelaide explores Habakkuk's questions about violence, injustice and the faithfulness of God. It offers three invitations: bring God your protest, let God examine your own life, and trust God with the future. Honest prayer leaves room for anger and difficult questions, while faith also asks what we may need to confess, repair or give back. The sermon looks to Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection as the ground of Christian hope. It encourages practical action against wrongdoing, patient friendship with people carrying questions, and honest conversations about why Jesus matters. We can seek justice without surrendering to bitterness, and share hope while still living with questions of our own. Explore what faithful discipleship can look like while we wait. • How Can I Share My Faith Without Making Friendship Awkward? | Luke
    Oct 19 2026
Have you ever wanted to talk about faith with someone you care about, but worried it might change the friendship? What would you say, and what if they asked a question you couldn’t answer? In this sermon from Christ Church North Adelaide, we explore Jesus’ sending of his messengers in Luke’s Gospel. Jesus gives them a place to begin: offer peace, receive hospitality and stay where they are welcomed. These instructions invite us to notice the ordinary relationships in which we can listen, share life and speak honestly about Jesus. Friendship involves receiving as well as giving. Accepting someone’s help, making room for their experience and acknowledging our own struggles allows a relationship to become mutual. Sharing faith can grow through remembering a name, following up a conversation, asking whether someone would welcome prayer, or explaining in our own words why Jesus matters to us. Each invitation leaves the other person free to choose, and a refusal can be received graciously while care continues. The practical invitation is simple: over the next month, become a regular somewhere you enjoy. Learn names, pay attention, receive what others offer and look for opportunities to bring kindness and peace. Those still exploring faith are welcome to practise this attention and friendship too. For followers of Jesus, the challenge is to pray, recognise welcome and take a small, honest step when curiosity about faith appears. • What Does Faith Look Like Beyond Sunday? | Luke 4
    Oct 19 2026
What does following Jesus look like when you leave church and return to everyday life? And how do you share your faith when you are afraid of what others might think? This Evensong sermon from Christ Church North Adelaide explores the beginning of Jesus’ public ministry in Luke 4, with his baptism in Luke 3 as its starting point. Led by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness, Jesus faces hunger, isolation and temptation. His responses point us towards God’s word as a source of spiritual nourishment and guidance when our own resolve feels weak. The sermon connects these wilderness temptations with familiar pressures: the desire to fit in, the attraction of material rewards and the need for other people’s approval. It also acknowledges a tension for those exploring Christianity: being drawn to Jesus while struggling to trust the institution of the church. Beautiful buildings, music and liturgy can enrich worship, but the call to discipleship reaches into our homes, workplaces and relationships. Following Christ involves learning from his example, resisting temptation, sharing our experience of faith and inviting others into Christian community. Jesus’ rejection in his hometown also reminds us that an invitation may not always be welcomed. Whether you are beginning to explore faith or have worshipped for years, consider one practical step this week: spend time with Luke 4, reflect on where approval shapes your choices, or have an honest conversation about what faith means to you. The invitation is to carry what we receive in worship into the people and places of daily life.
