What if healing trauma isn’t all about finding out the root cause?
In this episode, I talk about the definition of trauma, and what I feel is missing from the trauma healing process oftentimes.
In our neuro-centric health systems, there is much emphasis on the story and what happened to us. But trauma itself isn't what happened to us. It's the somatic residue that can be left behind afterwards: the patterns, behaviours and protective responses that can stay stuck in the body long after something has happened.
In this episode, I’m exploring what happens when we stop trying to force our way into the past and instead start building safety, felt-sense attunement and a tolerance for feeling into the present. We’ll talk about titration, coming gently into contact with the stickier residue and why the body needs to move between activation and safety rather than being thrown straight into the deep end.
I also share a little 'Behind the Scenes Feels' that prompted this episode after a recent traumatic event in my own life.
If you've been on the trauma healing journey for a while now and you find yourself stuck in the same patterns or being triggered by the same things, perhaps the question isn’t “Why am I not over this yet?” it’s “What does my body need now?”
