Junge Leiden (1827-1821): Traumbilder, Lieder, Romanzen, Sonette... diese Ausgabe kann ich dem überrheinischen Publikum nicht zuschicken, ohne sie mit freundlichsten Grüßen in ehrlichster Prosa zu begleiten. Ich weiß nicht, welches wunderliche Gefühl mich davon abhält, dergleichen Vorworte, wie es bei Gedichtsammlungen üblich ist, in schönen Rhythmen zu versifizieren. Seit einiger Zeit sträubt sich etwas in mir gegen alle gebundene Rede, und wie ich höre, regt sich bei manchen Zeitgenossen eine ähnliche Abneigung.
