Episode Title: Heartbreak, Healing, and Love

You are listening to Who’s on the Aux, the podcast with your hosts Fiona Reznik and Aleena Kashif.

In this episode of Who’s on the Aux the Podcast, we discuss: Heartbreak, Healing, and Love

    Segment 1: Introduction

Aleena: Who’s on the Aux? We’re on the Aux. Hello everyone, and welcome back to Who’s on the Aux podcast, where we discuss some of your favorite music artists and decide whether they are truly good or just over hyped.

Fiona: That’s right. So who are we talking about today?

Aleena: We are talking about the guy they say who was built from heartbreak…

    Fiona: Which is???

    Aleena: Zach Bryan, duh

    Fiona: Who??

Aleena: I honestly don’t really know either, I’m not gonna lie. However, I did some research, and he is an American songwriter.

Fiona: Yeah, never heard of him

Aleena: Yeah- wait, wait, we just got a message from one of our listeners!

Segment 2: Early Life and Career

    Fiona: Okay! Read it now!

Aleena: This is a question from Julie, who emailed me from Australia! She is wondering what inspired us to create a podcast and why we chose this particular topic.

(Talk about why we chose podcasting, and we did this topic.)

Fiona: Moving back into the topic of this episode

Aleena: (Talk about Zach Bryan) As ironic as it is, even though Zach Bryan makes many country and American songs, he was actually born in Japan.

Fiona: No way, was he raised there?

Aleena: Nope, he was raised in Oklahoma, but both of his parents were stationed in Japan because both parents were serving time in the U.S Navy. Which later on, influenced Zach to serve there too, but I’ll get into that later.

Fiona: Oh, so when would he even have time to start music then?

Aleena: Basically, when he was 14, his grandfather gifted him a guitar, which was literally all that Zach needed. Zach had a spark, and I guess the guitar made it bigger.

Fiona: But why would his grandfather just randomly give him a guitar?

Aleena: He would write some poetry when he was 12, and I think his grandfather just saw a gift in him.

Fiona: Okay, so what about him serving in the Navy?

Aleena: After high school, he decided to enlist, following in his parents' footsteps. He stayed for 8 years before he decided to leave. While he was in the Navy, he would upload videos of himself singing, and they were unedited. It showed many people his talent, and as soon as he left, he decided to keep doing music.

Fiona: How much longer after that did he actually become recognized, or famous?

Aleena: He mainly got recognized because he would post videos on YouTube while he was still in the Navy. This one video he posted on YouTube was named “Heading South”, which was literally filmed on his phone. This gave him recognition and gathered many, but his debut album was made after the death of his mother, Annette, in 2019. In her memory, he named the album DeAnn.

Fiona: Aww, that is very sentimental, like making a whole album named after his mom. But what after that?

Aleena: Well, he started releasing more and more independent albums, and he started gaining fans and fame. Eventually, he went on tour, and now people listen to him daily.

Fiona: That's cool, I’m gonna listen to one of his songs, because I still don't even know who he is.

Aleena: Before we get into opinions, let's hear from one of our classmates about their podcast.

    Segment 3: Opinions and Conclusion

Aleena: (Welcome everyone back) So, do you listen to country music, or do you like it?

    Fiona: Opinions

    Aleena: Opinions

Aleena: Thank you for listening. Were your hosts Fiona Reznik and Aleena Kashif signing off? Next week on the Aux, we have yet again another male artist. He is a rapper...

You are listening to Who’s on the Aux, the podcast with your hosts Fiona Reznik and Aleena Kashif.

In this episode of Who’s on the Aux, we will discuss Hozier: Choirs, Cellos, and Chaos.

    Segment 1: Intro

Aleena: Who’s on the Aux? We’re on the Aux. Hello everyone, and welcome back to Who’s on the Aux podcast, where we discuss some of your favorite music artists and decide whether they are truly good or just over hyped.

Fiona: We are very excited to record this episode because we have our first guest on the show!

    Shiv: (Introduces herself)

Aleena: (Ask Shiv who’s on the aux today?)

Shiv: Answer and say it's Hozier.

Aleena: Oooo, okay, I honestly don’t know much of him. Is he good?

Fiona: Have you ever heard a Hozier song?

    Aleena: No, not really.

    Shiv: You’re definitely missing out.

Fiona: Yeah, he’s such a good artist.

Aleena: Well, I wouldn’t know. I’ve never really listened to his music or heard anything about him.

Shiv: It’s okay, we got u.

Fiona: Yeah, we can tell you about his early life and career.

Segment 2: Career and Early Life

Aleena: Okay, so who even is this guy?

Shiv: To start, Hozier’s full name is Andrew Hozier-Byrne. Hozier was born on March 17, 1990, in Bray, County Wicklow, Ireland.

    Aleena: Wait, so he’s Irish?

    Shiv: Yeahhh, he is.

Aleena: Bro, I wanna go to Ireland so bad.

Fiona: Guys, back on topic, his father was a blues musician, and at the age of 6, his father had severe spinal cord surgery that left him in a wheelchair. When he was 15, he started to learn to play the guitar and started to write songs. After his dad's surgery, his family financially struggled.

    Aleena: Dang, that sounds hard.

Shiv: Yeah, it really was for him. Hozier attended Trinity College Dublin, but then dropped out to pursue his music career.

Fiona: Hozier’s first song was Take Me to Chruch, which is also one of his most popular songs. It was released on July 3, 2013. Hozier gained much of his popularity from "Take Me to Church." Take Me to Chruch also appeared on Billboard 200.

Aleena: I haven’t heard of that song. I mean, I don’t really know Hozier at all.

Shiv: That’s exactly why we’re telling you about him now.

Aleena: I don’t know if I will ever listen to Hozier.

Fiona: Save your opinions for later, Aleena.

Shiv: Hozier has released so many other songs as well. In the same album as Take Me to Church, he released Angel of Small Death and the Codiene scene and Jackie and Wilson.

Fiona: Separate from that album, he released one of my favorite songs, Too Sweet, in 2024.

Aleena: These are some interesting song names!

    Shiv: Yeah…

Fiona: Okay, everyone, stay tuned to hear the special discussion coming up after this break…

    (Break for drop sharing)

    Segment 3: Opinions.

Fiona: Welcome back, everyone. Before we get back into this episode. Go check out Food Away from Home, the podcast where our guest today, Shiv, is one of the hosts.

    Shiv: Thank you, Fiona!

Aleena: (Get us back on track with opinions.)

Aleena: Thank you, everyone, for joining in today. We’re your hosts, Fiona Reznik and Aleena Kashif, signing off. Next week on the aux, we have another guest on the show! Quickly, a huge thank you to Shiv for joining us today!

Shiv: Thank you for having me.

Fiona: Our hints for the next artist are, it’s a K-pop group, and they are extremely well-known. This group is also currently on a world tour.

You are listening to Who’s on the Aux podcast with your hosts, Fiona Reznik and Aleena Kashif

In this episode of Who’s on the Aux the Podcast, we discuss Drake, God’s plan or PR plan?

    Segment 1: Early Life

Fiona: Who’s on the Aux? We’re on the Aux. Hello everyone, and welcome back to Who’s on the Aux Podcast, where we talk about some of your favorite music artists and discuss whether they deserve all their hype or if they are complete trash. On the aux today, we have Drake. This episode was requested by one of my friends, Kallitsa.

Aleena: Bro, this song is stuck in my head.

    Fiona: Really, what song??

Aleena: You know that song called Practice?

    Fiona: Uhhh… who’s it by?

Aleena: Drake, duh. How do you not know it?

    Fiona: Drake?? Ewwww

Aleena: What? Do you not like Drake?

Fiona: No, not really, but it was requested, so I decided to make an episode about him.

    Aleena: Huh? Wait, why not?

Fiona: I just don’t like his music style I guess.

Aleena: You don’t know what you are talking about, but whatever, I know a little bit about Drake, so I can start telling you about his early life, and I think I can definitely try to change your opinion of him.

Fiona: I don’t know, but you can try.

    Segment 2: Career

Aleena: Alright, so now we are gonna start with “The Certified Lover Boy”, also known as Drake!

    Fiona: Heerrre we go..

    Aleena: Stop, I love Drake.

Fiona: Okay, whatever, even though he’s the guy who writes breakup songs for people he never even dated.

Aleena: Okay, but so does Taylor Swift.

Fiona: Yeah, but Taylor Swift... actually, I don't even know.

Aleena: Yeah, exactly, also, he is like in a bunch of memes, he's really funny, but anyways, back on track…before he became famous, his name was Aubrey Drake Graham. He was born on October 24, 1986. Guess where he was born.

Fiona: Oh yeah, his album cover for one of his albums was the CN Tower because he was born in Canada or something.

Aleena: Yup, Drake.. Or should I say AUBREY, was born in Toronto, Canada.

Fiona: Okayyy, but how did he get into music, and what’s his early life?

Aleena: Drake’s dad, Dennis Graham, used to be a drummer who apparently played with Jerry Lee Lewis, so I guess you could say that Drake was kind of born into music.

Fiona: That’s cool, I wondered if any of that “rock n roll” affected any of Drake’s music.Aleena: I mean, I guess in a way it did, but I feel that it was more of his parents combined that kinda gave him his perspective. Drake had a black dad and a Jewish mom in the Canadian suburbs. I also think what changed him a lot was that Drake’s parents split when he was 5, so it turned into a struggle.

Fiona: Dang, that’s actually kinda sad.. But after all that hardship, how did he get to where he is now???

Aleena: Yeah, so basically, after living with his mom and in the struggle, he built his career from scratch.

Fiona: Wait, so you’re telling me all his sad songs about his struggle were actually real?

Aleena: Yes, bro, that's literally why he made a song called “Started from the bottom”. Some people call it his biography in 10 minutes. Okay, wait, here is his glow-up story. When he was a teenager, he got a role in the movie “The Next Generation,” which helped him make some money and get known. The thing was, though, he didn’t want to be just an actor; he wanted to be a rapper, and that was tough because nobody took him seriously. He started dropping mixtapes on his own. They were called " Room for Improvement" (2006), "Comeback Season" (2007), and "So Far Gone" (2009). That third one finally blew up online, and Lil Wayne saw it…

    Fiona: Lil Wayne??? The...

You are listening to Who’s on the Aux, the podcast with your hosts Fiona Reznik and Aleena Kashif.

In this episode of Who’s on the Aux the Podcast, we discuss: Tate McRae, The Tate Takeover.

    Segment 1: Early Life.

Hello, everyone, and welcome back to Who’s on the Aux podcast, where we talk about some of your favorite artists.

    Fiona: Singing tit for tat

Aleena: Get me back on topic

Fiona: Sorry. I was feeling a bit greedy today

    Aleena: Why is that?

Fiona: Well, obviously, because we're talking about Tate McRae.

Aleena: Tate McRae. Okay! I’m fine with that.

Fiona: Tate McRae was born on July 1, 2003, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. She used to be a dancer. Fun fact: she was the first Canadian finalist on the American reality TV show “So You Think You Can Dance.” In 2017, she released her debut single “One Day.” That debut went viral.

Aleena: After her debut single went viral, she released her Debut EP “All the Things I Never Said” in 2020. She gained her popularity with the song “You broke me first.”

    Segment 2: Career

Fiona: In 2020, she released Too Young to be Sad. She gained her popularity with the song “You broke me first.” For those who don’t know that song, it goes like this.. “Now suddenly you're asking for it back. Could you tell me where you get that verse?”

Aleena: Yeah, I heard about that song.

Fiona: Currently, it has over 2.5 billion streams. After its release, it was the longest-charting song on the Billboard 200 for weeks.

Aleena: On May 27, 2022, she released the album I Used to Think I Could Fly. Right after it was released, it got over 200 million streams. In January of 2022, she was nominated for best new pop artist, dance song of the year, and best cover song. In February of 2022, Tate McRae was announced as a new brand ambassador for Maybelline and the news of their Vinyl Ink liquid lip color.

Fiona: Her next album was Think Later. Her first and lead song was "Greedy," released September 15, 2023. Exes was the next single, and it was released on September 17, 2023. On December 8, 2023, her 3rd single Run for the Hills was released along with the entire album. The Think Later tour started on April 17, 2024, and ended on November 21, 2024.

Aleena: Her 3rd and most recent album, So Close to What, was released February 21, 2025, along with her fourth single, Revolving Door. Before that, she released It’s ok, I’m ok on September 12, 2024, 2 Hands on November 14, 2024, and Sports Car on January 24, 2025. She is currently still on tour for the Miss Possevive tour.

    Segment 3: Opinions

Fiona: My best friend, Kallista, got me into Tate McRae, so a big thank you to her. I love Tate McRae’s music, and I found it interesting how she started off as a dancer because I used to be a dancer too.

Aleena: I lowkey don’t really listen to her, but from the songs that I heard, it’s honestly not worth all the hype. But after Fiona wouldn’t stop talking about her, I guess now I have to try listening to her again.

Fiona: Yeah, I guess you do, and lmk if you like her.

Aleena: Hmm, maybe, but probably not.

    Fiona: Thank everyone for listening.

Fiona: Hints for our next artist: Rapper, Album named Take Care.

    Aleena: Music Credits

    Fiona: Socials.

You are listening to Who’s on the Aux, the podcast with your hosts Fiona Reznik and Aleena Kashif.

In this episode of Who’s on the Aux the Podcast, we discuss: Taylor Swift: Is she truly good, or over hyped?

    Segment 1: Early Life
    • Fiona: Hello everyone, and welcome back to Who’s on the Aux podcast, where we talk about some of your favorite music artists and decide whether they are truly good or over hyped. Personally, I am super excited for today's episode because we are going to be talking about one of my favorite music artists. If you listened to the hints from the last episode and you guessed Taylor Swift… you are correct! Today, we are diving deep into Taylor Swift’s early life and career.
    • Aleena: Taylor Swift? Really?
    • Fiona: I did The Weeknd for you, so now you have to do Taylor Swift
    • Aleena: Fine, I guess. Now tell me more about her.
    • Fiona: Explain early life (Where she was born, how she got into music, what her family was like)
    • Fiona: Born December 13 in Wyomissing, PA. At 9 started taking vocal and acting lessons. Started writing music at 12. At 14, she moved to Hendersonville, Tennessee. At 16, she went to Aaron Academy to accommodate her touring schedule through homeschooling. Graduated high school a year early.
    • Aleena: A year early? That's pretty cool. Now tell me, how did her career start?
    • Fiona: I was getting there.

    Segment 2: Career
    • Fiona: Her first album, Taylor Swift, was released on October 24th, 2006. She was 16 at the time. One title song is “Our Song”
    • Aleena: Only 16 and she released an album?
    • Yes, and it debuted at number 19 on the Billboard 200.
    • Aleena: Dang, that's cool.
    • Her next album, Fearless was released on November 11, 2008, when she was 18. It debuted at number 4 on the Billboard 200. One of my personal favorite songs on that album is “Fearless”.
    • Aleena: Wait, wait, wait! How many albums does she have??
    • Fiona: 12, and one more upcoming album, “The life of a show girl,” and before you ask, yes, I will be talking about all 12 albums.
    • Fiona: Next is Speak Now. In August of 2010, she released a single, “Mine,” from her 3rd album, Speak Now. When she released the Speak Now tour, it raised $123 million.
    • Aleena: I need that money. Do you know how much stuff I could buy with that?!
    • Yeah, I know it’s a lot. Two years later, in August of 2012, she released Red. It debuted at number 1 in the US, reaching number 2 on the Billboard 200. “We are never getting back together” was her lead track on the album.
    • Aleena: That's the one about Harry Styles, right?
    • Fiona: Yes, one of the many about Harry Styles.
    • Aleena: What do you mean by “many?”
    • Fiona: You'll see. Moving on, we have 1989. 1989 was released on October 27th, 2013. One of the most popular songs is Bad Blood.
    • Aleena: Oh yeah! The one that's like “it's so sad to think about the good times?”
    • Fiona: Yup! She also has a song called Style and guess who it's about!
    • Aleena: Someone with good style.
    • Fiona: Uh, sure. But no, Harry Styles.
    • Fiona: Next is my favorite album, Reputation! One of my favorite songs on this Album is Don’t Blame Me. Reputation was released on November 10, 2017.
    • Aleena: That's so many albums.
    • Fiona: Yeah. Let's go rapid fire now.
    • Aleena: Perfect.
    • Fiona: After Reputation she released Lover. Then she released Evermore and folklore (the sister albums). Then Midnights and most recently The Tortured Poets Department.

In this episode of Who’s on the Aux the Podcast we discuss The Weeknd; his life and his career.

    Segment 1: His Early Life

    • Aleena will welcome everyone back to the podcast
    • Fiona: Not the biggest fan- dragged into topic
    • Aleena agrees, and mentions how Fiona might learn something from me about the weekend. Humorously.
    • Fiona asks where his story even begins.
    • Aleena answers, and starts where and when 1990 he was born.
    • Aleena: Okay so first, his real name is not the Weeknd,
    • Fiona: No reallyyy? (sarcastic)
    • Aleena: His real name is actually Abel Tesfaye. Reason for stage name(his early life).
    • Fiona: Rough Start?
    • Aleena: Born in Toronto Canada in 1990
    • Grew up with struggling family
    • Family immigrated from Ethiopia
    • Parents separated, raised mainly by mother and grandmother.
    • Didn’t have traditional family structure → shaped his music,
    • Fiona: Okay, that is actually interesting. Didn’t he also have trouble as a teenager?
    • Aleena: Yeah
    • Got exposed to drugs
    • Got caught shoplifting, and other small crimes.
    • Dropped out of high school
    • Fiona: Dropped out? How did he take care of himself after that?
    • Aleena: Exactly, that's why he made his name The Weeknd. One weekend he just decided leave his home. He took care of himself by leeching off his friends, and also showing his commitment to his music career.
    • Segment 2: Career and Opinions
    • Aleena: First song in 2007 is get in there
    • Fiona: never heard of it
    • (talk about song after Fiona say never heard of it)
    • It was recorded at a friends house
    • Song only became public because it was leaked online in 2012
    • That’s the reason why this song is not available on any official streaming services.
    • Aleena: Anyways, have you heard about his song, the hills?
    • Fiona: Nope
    • Aleena: That’s the song that made him popular (talk about song) → why he wrote it, what it was inspired by.
    • This song got its inspiration from a bunch of different things
    • One of the things being, secret relationships. It describes a secret relationship that was being attempted to keep the relationship hidden from the public.
    • Another thing is the dangers of fame, he includes the struggle of trying to hide his personal life when he is famous.
    • The last thing about this song also talks about his self destruction because of drugs and everything.
    • Fiona: That's cool, but the only song I really know from the weekend is blinding lights, but I low key forgot what it sounds like.
    • Aleena: Yeah that’s his most popular song. I always hear it in like the mall and stuff.
    • Aleena: Talk about song ( its about how when u see someone at night and your intoxicated your blinded by streetlights.)

    Segment 3: Opinions
    • Fiona: Blinding lights is pretty good, but that's the only song I like.
    • Aleena: Say there are better songs
    • Fiona: disagree
    • Debate why they are good or not.
    • Fiona does Outro: Thank everyone for listening and drop hints for our next artist.
    • Fiona: Next artist is Taylor Swift ( 14grammys, Albums, New Album, Engagement)
