  • Why Your Doctor Is Rushing Your Appointment (And How to Fix It)
    Oct 14 2026

Are you concerned about how the healthcare system influences your treatment? We examine the pressures doctors face today.

Many patients worry that doctor incentives are shifting away from patient care. We look at the systemic pressures caused by insurance companies, which often force providers to manage high patient volumes just to keep their practices open. This environment can make it difficult for doctors to focus on the individual needs of those sitting in the exam room.

We also discuss the potential influence of pharmaceutical companies on modern medical practice. By questioning these structures, we explore the benefits of a patient-centered model where care is prioritized above administrative metrics. If you are looking for a doctor who is paid directly by their patients, this discussion highlights why that approach may lead to more transparent and effective medical outcomes.

Subscribe for weekly insights on navigating the complexities of autoimmune care, and let me know in the comments if you have experienced these pressures in your own medical journey.

  • From Severe Rheumatoid Arthritis to Remission: How One Patient Returned to Triathlon
    Sep 29 2026

What happens when rheumatoid arthritis takes away the life you thought you would always have?

In this powerful patient story, Dr. Isabelle Amigues sits down with Palmy, a former professional long-distance triathlete, to talk about her journey with severe rheumatoid arthritis, pregnancy, postpartum symptoms, treatment, remission, and finding her way back to the life she loves.

Before her diagnosis, Palmy was a professional triathlete who had spent years training and competing at a high level. After having her baby, she began experiencing increasing joint pain and inflammation in her knees, wrists, fingers, hands, and other areas of her body.

Simple things became difficult—including exercising, walking, opening jars, getting dressed, and even holding and caring for her baby.

After seeing several doctors, Palmy recalls being told that rheumatoid arthritis was something she would simply have to live with. By the time she found Dr. Isabelle Amigues, she was in severe pain and had lost hope that she could return to her normal life.

But her story didn't end there.

Through treatment and a renewed sense of hope, Palmy began working toward remission. Eventually, she returned to running and triathlon—and later completed an Olympic-distance triathlon with a personal record that beat her time from roughly ten years earlier.

  • Is Your Back Pain Actually Inflammatory? 5 Signs to Know
    Sep 9 2026

Back pain is common but that doesn’t always mean it’s normal.

In this clip, Dr. Isabelle Amigues explains some of the signs that can point toward inflammatory back pain, including back pain that begins at a younger age, morning stiffness, symptoms that improve with exercise or movement, and improvement with anti-inflammatory medications.

Inflammatory back pain can sometimes be associated with conditions in the spondyloarthritis family, including ankylosing spondylitis and psoriatic arthritis. And importantly, psoriatic arthritis can sometimes occur even when obvious psoriasis isn’t present.

The story you tell your rheumatologist matters. Details like when your back pain started, when it feels worse, what makes it better, and whether you have a family history of psoriasis or arthritis can all help guide the conversation.

If you've been told your back pain is “just normal,” but something doesn’t feel right, consider talking with a rheumatologist.

💬 Have you ever assumed your back pain was just something you had to live with?

  • Types of Arthritis Explained: How to Tell Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Gout & More Apart
    Sep 1 2026

What type of arthritis could be causing your joint pain? Not all arthritis looks the same and one of the first things a rheumatologist considers is whether joint pain is mechanical or inflammatory.

In this Rheumatology 1-on-1 Live, Dr. Isabelle Amigues walks through several real-world clinical examples to explain how different types of arthritis can present, including:

    • Osteoarthritis and mechanical joint pain
    • Reactive arthritis
    • Psoriatic arthritis
    • Gout and CPPD (pseudogout)
    • Ankylosing spondylitis
    • Rheumatoid arthritis
    • Arthritis caused by infections
    • Other less common causes of inflammatory arthritis

Dr. Amigues also explains why symptoms such as morning stiffness, swelling, pain that improves with exercise, symmetric joint involvement, back pain, and sudden severe flares can give rheumatologists important clues.

The goal isn't to diagnose yourself from symptoms but understanding these patterns can help you have a more informed conversation with your healthcare provider and know when seeing a rheumatologist may be helpful.

Dr. Amigues also shares exciting news about expanding her rheumatology practice to Boulder, Colorado.
