• Careers Are Weird Now + AI thoughts
    Jan 29 2026

Hey friends, welcome back to the show.

Today’s mini-episode is called “Careers Are Weird Now” — because honestly… what is even happening in the world of work lately?

Everywhere you look, smart, capable, experienced people are getting laid off. Entire departments are disappearing. Industries are shifting overnight. And people who thought they were on a stable, predictable path are suddenly sitting there going:

    “Wait… now what?”

If that’s you — or someone you love — you are not alone. And more importantly, you are not failing. You’re living through a massive career culture shift that nobody really prepared us for.

Here’s the reframe that I think is really important:

    • Pivots are not proof that you failed
    • They’re proof that you’re paying attention

The idea that you pick one career and stay in it for 30 years is becoming less and less realistic. People are having multiple careers now — not just multiple jobs.

You might go from corporate to consulting. From employee to entrepreneur.
From one industry to something completely different.

We cannot talk about modern careers without talking about AI.

And I know — this brings up a lot of feelings. Fear. Resistance. Overwhelm. Even a little bit of anger.

But here’s the reality: AI is not a trend. It’s a tool shift as big as the internet was. And learning how to use it is becoming a baseline professional skill.

That doesn’t mean you need to become a tech expert. It means you need to understand how AI can support the work you already do.

Writers who use AI for brainstorming and outlining will move faster than writers who don’t.

Sales professionals who use AI for research and messaging will be more efficient.
Business owners who use AI to create content, organize ideas, and streamline tasks will have more leverage.

    AI isn’t your replacement.
    It’s your amplifier.
