In the final episode for season one …

Off the back of the HIA Awards, Steve sits down with Stephen Knight, Executive Director at Housing Industry Association (HIA) South Australia, to have an in-depth discussion on the challenges the construction industry has seen and dealt with in 2021 with the introduction of the Home Builder grant, and the combined role COVID has played on supplier shortages, pressures in delays and now the lack of trades with the enormous growth in residential builds in South Australia. We also drop in our HIA win for South Australian Professional Medium Home Builder of the Year for the third year in a row!

  • Highlighting Mental Health Within The Construction Industry With Mates In Construction
    Nov 10 2021

    In today’s episode …

Steve and co-host Ryan Gazzard from Regent Homes sit down with Amanda Braddock, Case Manager and Field Officer at Mates in Construction SA, to have a raw and honest conversation about the important and unfortunately unspoken topic of Mental Health within the Construction Industry.

At a time when the Construction Industry is dealing with some of the biggest challenges it has ever gone through, there is no better time than now to be doubling down on the mental health safety of our employees, especially when the Construction Industry continues to witness alarming statistics, losing one person every second day to suicide in this country.

While the Industry has always paid attention to the physical safety of its employees, the unfortunate reality is that a construction worker is 6 times more likely to die by suicide than an accident on the job. Now more than ever with the extra pressures COVID-19 has presented, we need to be investing time into the mental health safety of our employees too.

This is where Mates in Construction comes in. With an aim to build a community that can keep each other safe, Mates In Construction provides free training sessions to individuals, businesses and small teams, to equip people in the Construction Industry with the necessary skills to recognise and provide assistance to a struggling mate. Amanda highlights that MATES want early intervention to be their thing, emphasising that they are here to support everyone within our industry and their families too.

Through this podcast, we aim to remove the stigma associated with Mental Health and bring light to a topic that people can be uncomfortable talking about. Starting the conversation and encouraging the industry to take leadership on a topic that affects so many, reduces the shame of people being able to stick their hand up and say “I am not ok”. Remember, it can be an innocent conversation with a mate that turns into early intervention and suicide prevention.

Today’s episode does mention the word suicide and brief conversations are had. We would like to add a trigger warning to this episode and if anything mentioned in this podcast is triggering or you want to debrief, Mates in Constructions are available 24 hours a day 7 days a week on 1300 642 111. For more information on who Mates in Construction are and the amazing work they are doing for the Construction Industry, visit their website at https://mates.org.au/.

  • Video Production... Is It Really Worth The Investment? With Lawrence Cirocco
    Nov 3 2021

    In today’s episode …

Our host Steve Walker sits down with Lawrence Cirocco, Managing Director of Cirocco Media, to discuss the importance of implementing dynamic content into your marketing strategy, and the power and value in understanding your company’s vision.

With the rise of social media apps like TikTok, Snapchat and Instagram Reels, users are now tuning out of digital content that is over 37 seconds long and instead are expecting the message to be delivered in a way that is engaging and told quickly but efficiently. If you can tell a story and evoke emotion within a 30-second video, even better! Lawrence highlights that imagery just doesn’t cut it anymore when it comes to increasing engagement, and instead emphasises that in order to increase reach and engagement, you need to be incorporating dynamic videos into your marketing strategy.

Steve and Lawrence also discuss the business side of running a company, focusing their point on not being afraid to say no. As a company, understanding who you are, what your vision is, and if you can meet the customer’s needs and expectations is where you will see exponential growth, as having the right branding and reputation is where the success lies. Lawrence shares that it wasn’t until he refined his business strategy and took on only clients who he felt passionate about and could provide a creative element to their overall marketing strategy, that he saw enormous growth.
