    Oct 22 2026

If social media has ever felt overwhelming, inconsistent, or like a constant cycle of “start strong → fall off → repeat,” this episode is going to hit home.

In this conversation, I’m joined by brand photographer and content strategist Gina Ribando, who has built her entire career around helping small business owners create intentional, sustainable content strategies that actually move the needle. We unpack what’s really going wrong in how most people approach social media, and more importantly, how to fix it in a way that doesn’t lead to burnout.

From redefining what “consistency” really means to building systems that make showing up easier, Gina shares practical, no-fluff strategies you can start implementing immediately.

We also get into the truth about vanity metrics, why going viral can actually hurt your business, and how to shift your focus toward content that converts and builds trust over time. If you’ve been stuck in overthinking, over-consuming, or trying to follow someone else’s strategy, this conversation will help you simplify and move forward with clarity.

  • 111 - proof of life after a 2-month sabbatical
    Oct 8 2026

I’m back! After a two-month sabbatical from the podcast, I’m checking in with a little proof of life and a transparent conversation about what this season has looked like.

The last several months have held a lot of really good things, but also some heavy ones. Between health diagnoses with family and friends, my own health diagnosis and mental health crisis, travel, and simply recognizing the limits of my own capacity, I realized I needed to slow down and make space for what was actually happening in my life.

In this episode, I’m sharing why I stepped away, what I learned from having the space to pause, and what I’m thinking about as I look toward the future of Take Your Shot. I’m also talking about the connection between building a business and building a life that actually gives you the freedom to live it.

The podcast is officially back, and I’m excited for what’s ahead.

  • 110 -Managing your operational debt with Tricia Harrison
    Jul 30 2026
Managing Operational Debt with Tricia Harrison

In this episode of the Take Your Shot Podcast, I’m joined by operations architect Tricia Harrison to talk about something so many growing business owners are dealing with without even having a name for it: operational debt.

Operational debt is the structure your business owes itself because you were so focused on growing, serving clients, and generating revenue that you didn't have time to build the systems, processes, documentation, and infrastructure to support that growth. And just like financial debt, it compounds the longer you leave it untouched.

Tricia and I talk about what operational debt actually looks like, how to recognize it in your own business, and where to start cleaning it up without creating another massive project that leaves you burned out.

In this episode, we talk about:
    • What operational debt is and why it tends to grow alongside your business
    • The common places operational debt shows up, from client delivery to team management
    • Using decision trees to reduce unnecessary questions and decision-making
    • The difference between hiring an operations expert and hiring a virtual assistant
    • How to audit your business for the root cause of a problem instead of simply treating the symptom

  • 109 - The Phases of Building a $500K+ Photography Business with Kylee Maughan
    Jul 16 2026

What does it actually look like to build a $500K+ photography business—step by step, phase by phase?

In this episode, I’m joined by Kylee Maughan, founder of Kylee Ann Studios, who breaks down the real evolution of her business over the past 15 years. From charging $35 sessions in college to building a multi-six-figure company with a team of photographers across multiple states, Kylee walks through the exact phases that got her there.

We talk about the messy beginnings, the rapid growth that comes from investing in education, the breaking point that forced her to rebuild her business with systems, and the pivotal moment she expanded beyond just herself by hiring associate photographers.

Kylee also shares how a major pivot during COVID—into product photography—became one of the most impactful decisions in her business, ultimately helping her scale past $500K while creating more freedom in her life.

If you’re in the early stages, feeling maxed out, or trying to figure out how to grow beyond just yourself, this episode will give you a clear picture of what each phase actually requires—and what it takes to move to the next level.

    Key Takeaways:

Every phase of growth requires a different version of you. What works when you’re starting out won’t work when you’re scaling—and trying to hold onto old ways of operating is often what keeps photographers stuck.

Kylee’s story shows that sustainable growth doesn’t come from hustling harder. It comes from building systems, expanding your capacity through people, and being willing to pivot when the market changes.

The goal isn’t just to make more money—it’s to build a business that actually supports your life.

  • 107 - whether or not you should share personal and political views with Emily Gbadamosi
    Jun 18 2026

Are you building a business that actually reflects who you are—or just one that “looks good” from the outside?

In this episode of the Take Your Shot podcast, I’m joined by Emily Woodall Gbadamosi, founder of Woodall Creative Co., photographer, and systems strategist for creative entrepreneurs. We’re diving into what it really looks like to run a values-driven business—and why this goes far beyond a few words on your “About” page.

Emily shares how her experience building a photography business while working full-time forced her to create systems that gave her time back—and how that eventually led her to helping other creatives do the same. But more importantly, we unpack how your values influence everything from your client experience to your marketing, your boundaries, and even the tools you choose to use.

This conversation gets honest about the fear so many business owners have: “What if I lose clients by speaking up?” Emily shares her real-life experience—and why showing up authentically has actually led to deeper connections, stronger inquiries, and more aligned clients.

    We also talk about:

    • The difference between stated values vs. lived values (and why people can tell the difference)
    • How to share your beliefs online without feeling preachy or performative
    • The balance between automation and maintaining real human connection
    • Why authenticity is becoming more valuable in a world full of AI-generated content
    • How your values can guide decisions behind the scenes—like who you work with, what tools you use, and how you run your business

If you’ve ever felt hesitant to fully show up as yourself in your business, this episode will challenge you to rethink that—and give you a more grounded way to move forward.
