THE LEGEND OF MOUNT KLEPAC, THE PEAK OF THREE SEAS

In the grim and youthful ridges of the Sudetes, an unquenchable fire burned in days of yore. Behold, in the great forge of the god Svarog, three proud smiths, his apprentices, forged their renown. When their heavy hammers struck the rock as one, a thunderclap shook the foundations of the world. Mother Earth wept, wounded, and from her pure tears, three rushing streams were born.

These three rivers took altogether differing paths. The first set forth unto the north, toward the chill waves where the Baltic Sea doth roar. The second raced afar into the grim expanse known as Morimarusa, the North Sea. The third flowed unto the warm south, straight into the depths we know today as the Black Sea.

Thus did the wondrous Peak of Three Seas become the weeping heart of three salt seas. Yet this crag hath another name as well. Mount Klepacz. When thou layest thine ear to the cold rubble, deep echoes shalt thou hear: clang, clang, clang... 'Tis the quiet wind bounding off the boulders, recalling the rhythm to which the smiths measure out the fates of men. Know ye the secrets the rocky paths conceal, ere the echo of the smiths' hammers falls silent in the mist.

00:00 Of the wondrous mountain that hammers in the Sudetes
00:29 Of the unquenchable forge of the god Svarog
00:53 How the three smiths waged a dispute over their might
01:28 Of the mighty blow and the tears of Mother Earth
02:20 Of the smiths' humility and the name of Klepacz
03:09 How the three rivers flowed into different seas
04:05 Of the Peak of Three Seas and the eternal echo

    THE LEGEND OF RAROG

A quiet hiss in the hearth and a lively dance of sparks. Behold the Slavic Rarog, a mighty spirit of the flames, who guardeth order and purity. In the olden village, where the glowing embers held a soul of their own, this creature would at times reward goodness, and at others chastise human pride.

Hearken to the tale of the goodman Miłorad. This youth found a small black egg and bore it near his heart for nine days. A fiery bird hatched from it, and at first brought him eternal warmth and barns full of grain. Alas, easy gain soon blinded him. When the master began to drink, returning late and forsaking the care of his hut, the quiet embers turned into a grim, raging force.

Thus doth Slavic mythology vividly teach humility before the forces of nature. Behold how the angered Rarog grows into a great, ruinous vortex of flames. Can a man tame a power that giveth more than he himself can revere? Mark ye well, that greed turneth all wealth to smoke, and true riches demand care and a pure heart.

00:00 Of the living fire and the secret spirit
00:53 How Miłorad found the black egg in the dew
01:49 Of the hatching of the fiery bird
02:52 Of great bounty and the peasant's sloth
03:44 How Rarog grew in his wrath
05:10 Of the final night and the mighty blaze
05:44 Of a warning for those to come

THE LEGEND OF SWAĆBA, THE SLAVIC WEDDING

A living fire of oak doth burn amidst the night, and a red thread binds the hands of the young. Hearken unto what the Slavic swaćba was. A mystic rite of passage, an ancient ritual of holy nuptials, that bound human souls, destiny, and two kindreds together.

Know ye the secrets of the matchmakers, who welcomed the guests with bread and salt. Behold why a wreath of mugwort and rue was woven for the bride, to ward off an ill fate. Our forefathers knew full well that the swaćba was no mere dance. 'Twas not without reason that the groom swore his oaths in the forest, and the maiden washed her hair in the river, bidding farewell to her former life.

The trial of fire likewise awaited them, and the shared leap through the flames decreed their harmony and bounty. Behold how the capping rite, ere the first dawn, forever altered the maiden's fate. Learn whence came the rites of our forefathers, which endure unto this very day in our wedding customs.
