  • “PSO” excited to talk about PSOriasis with Dr. Lisa Swanson
    Sep 14 2026

Psoriasis is more than “just” a skin condition. There’s a lot more to it than red, scaly patches! In this episode of Skincredible, Dr. Lisa Swanson breaks down what psoriasis can look like in both kids and adults, why pediatric cases are increasingly common, and why psoriasis is sometimes mistaken for eczema, fungus, or even dandruff.

She also explores the different types of psoriasis, the surprising connection between psoriasis and other inflammatory conditions, clues that can help distinguish psoriasis from eczema, and why what’s happening beneath the skin may be just as important as what you see on the surface.

Plus, they tackle some common misconceptions—including whether psoriasis is contagious or related to hygiene—and share a few fascinating insights into the role of inflammation, the gut microbiome, and environmental factors.

This episode sets the stage for a deeper dive into psoriasis treatments in the next episode.

  • Tween Skincare: What’s Helpful, What’s Hype, and What’s Harmful?
    Aug 31 2026

Tween Skincare: What’s Helpful, What’s Hype, and What’s Harmful?

The skincare craze has officially reached the tween years and the industry is taking notice. From Sephora Kids and celebrity influencers to colorful products marketed specifically to children, tweens and teens are being encouraged to build elaborate skincare routines long before their skin actually needs them.

In this episode of the Skincredible Podcast, Dr. Lisa Swanson takes a closer look at the tween skincare boom: why it’s happening, who is influencing young consumers, and which products are actually worth using. We discuss social media, “Dr. TikTok,” unrealistic beauty standards, K-beauty and glass skin, peptides, hyaluronic acid, snail mucin, slugging, pimple patches, supplements, retinoids, skin-lightening products, and more.

We also explore the potential harms of over-treating young skin. This includes: irritation, acne, allergic reactions, unnecessary expense, and the growing pressure for kids to “fix” perfectly normal skin.

Being interested in skincare is NOT a bad thing. Dr. Swanson shares how parents and clinicians can support that enthusiasm while focusing on what really matters: protecting the skin barrier, using evidence-based products, avoiding unnecessary treatments, appreciating individuality, and building healthy relationships with appearance and self-care.

Because tweens don’t need a 10-step routine. They need good information, realistic expectations, and permission to be comfortable in their own skin.

  • Eczema Online: Fact vs. Fiction
    Aug 24 2026

What’s Fact vs. Fiction About Eczema?

The internet is full of advice about eczema, from beef tallow and coconut oil to probiotics, elimination diets, supplements, acupuncture, “natural” remedies, and topical steroid withdrawal. But how much of it is actually backed by science?

In this episode of Skincredible, Dr. Lisa Swanson takes a deep dive into the eczema advice she found online and separates what’s supported by evidence from what’s harmless, questionable, expensive, or potentially harmful. She and Ana talk about why misinformation spreads so easily, the limitations of internet searches and AI, and why expertise and an individualized diagnosis still matter. Dr. Swanson also discusses the importance of listening to patients, even when the science isn’t completely settled.

Most importantly, this episode is about finding the balance between evidence-based medicine and compassionate, patient-centered care. Because when it comes to eczema, patients and clinicians are on the same team, and the goal is always to help people live better lives.

  • Dr. Natasha Mesinkovska on Alopecia Areata: Luck Favors the Prepared Mind
    Aug 17 2026

What happens when two dermatologists who have spent years treating alopecia areata sit down and compare notes?

In this special episode of the Skincredible Podcast, Dr. Lisa Swanson welcomes her friend and colleague Dr. Natasha A. Mesinkovska, MD, PhD, an Associate Professor of Dermatology and Vice Chair for Clinical Research at UC Irvine and a nationally recognized expert in hair loss and alopecia areata.

Together, they take a candid look at how the treatment landscape for alopecia areata has transformed—from a time when some patients were told there was little that could be done, to an era of targeted therapies and rapidly expanding options.

They talk about what clinicians have learned from years of clinical trials and treating real patients, why earlier intervention may matter, how to think about treatment when the first approach doesn't work, and some of the questions that still don't have easy answers.

And, of course, they bring plenty of personality to the conversation. If you treat patients with alopecia areata or if you're a patient who is curious about what's out there and some of the science of how it came to be, stay tuned.
