Alcoholism is progressive. But sobriety can be progressive, too.

Don L. of Bellingham, Washington, shares his experience on “Sobriety Is Progressive Too” at the 2025 Alcoholics Anonymous International Convention in Vancouver, British Columbia.

A longtime A.A. speaker, Don has spent decades sharing his experience at conventions, roundups, and Twelve Step workshops across North America and internationally.

His presentation addresses a meaningful aspect of recovery: the opportunity for continued growth long after the drinking has stopped.

The Twelve Steps offer more than a way to achieve sobriety. They provide principles we can continue practicing throughout our lives—in our relationships, our challenges, and our service to others.

Whether someone has been sober for a few months or several decades, the opportunity to learn and grow remains.

What makes effective leadership possible within Alcoholics Anonymous' General Service structure?

Billy N. of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, a former A.A. General Service Board Trustee, presents Concept Eleven during the October 20, 2026, Monday Night Service Workshop.

Concept Eleven examines the importance of qualified committees, corporate service directors, executives, staff members, and consultants in supporting the responsibilities of the General Service Board.

Although the trustees hold final responsibility for world service administration, they cannot carry out that work alone.

Bill W.'s Eleventh Concept addresses the selection of qualified people, clearly defined responsibilities, committee composition, rotation, working relationships, and appropriate compensation for specialized service workers.

The central principle is that effective service depends upon capable people, appropriate authority, and shared responsibility.

Drawing on his experience in General Service, Billy helps explore a subject essential to understanding how Alcoholics Anonymous maintains its worldwide services.

This workshop is particularly relevant to trusted servants, G.S.R.s, D.C.M.s, delegates, and members interested in studying the Twelve Concepts for World Service.

Why does Alcoholics Anonymous maintain a Reserve Fund, and how does it help protect the Fellowship's essential services?

Billy N. of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, a former member of the A.A. General Service Board of Trustees, presents “History and Purpose of the Reserve Fund,” exploring the origins, responsibilities, and spiritual principles behind this important part of Alcoholics Anonymous' General Service structure.

Established in 1954, the General Service Board Reserve Fund was created to help ensure the continuity of essential A.A. services during financial emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.

But its purpose goes beyond financial security.

The Reserve Fund reflects A.A.'s commitment to self-support, prudent financial stewardship, accountability, and maintaining the services that help carry the message to the alcoholic who still suffers.

With his firsthand experience in General Service, Billy brings an informed perspective to a subject that connects the practical responsibilities of the General Service Board with the spiritual principles of the Seventh Tradition.

This presentation is particularly relevant to G.S.R.s, D.C.M.s, area officers, trusted servants, and anyone interested in understanding how Alcoholics Anonymous supports and protects its worldwide services.
