  • When Strategy Happens in a Room: Who Was There?
(Who Wasn’t?)
    Oct 14 2026

Agencies often meet a strategy only after it has been translated into deliverables. The brief requests a website, campaign or content programme, but the assumptions behind the request have not been tested against client-side capacity, approvals, content ownership or budget.

Episode 2 shows why this matters. An agency can estimate production work, but it cannot compensate indefinitely for a strategy that lacks internal agreement or operating support. When the right client stakeholders were absent from the planning room, their needs arrive later as scope changes, contradictory feedback and delayed decisions.

A stronger engagement starts by asking how the strategy was made. Who owns it? Who must supply content and approvals? Which skills sit inside the organization? What is genuinely fixed, and what remains open? These questions protect both craft and commercial reality.

The agency is not asking to run the client organization. It is asking for enough access and shared understanding to build toward an outcome rather than a list of outputs.

  • The Brief Is Not the Work
    Oct 28 2026

Agencies can tell when a brief describes outputs rather than an outcome. The work may request a full brand and digital transformation, yet provide no budget, timing, decision route or explanation of the problem.

Episode 5 explains why that is not creative freedom. It is commercial and delivery risk. Agencies must decide how much strategy to contribute before appointment, how to price uncertainty and whether the client has created the conditions for collaboration.

The strongest response is not to accept the deliverable list at face value. Ask what pain sits behind it. Confirm who owns the decision, what success changes, what is fixed and how the client will supply content and approvals. Build paid discovery where the problem is not yet sufficiently defined.

Excellent creative and technical work cannot compensate for a client that has not decided what the work is meant to accomplish. The brief should connect craft to a real objective.
