In this founding episode of The Space Between Podcast, Dr. Sondrina Bullitt, Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine, shares the personal health journey that led her away from Western medicine and into holistic healing. After years of misusing a prescribed steroid cream for eczema, Dr. Sondrina experienced a frightening full-body reaction — hair loss, systemic inflammation, and sudden food sensitivities — that sent her searching for answers Western medicine couldn't give her.
That search led her to gut healing, naturopathic medicine, food sensitivity testing, and eventually acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine — the practice she now teaches through this show. She opens up about becoming a Black American woman practicing an ancestral medicine that isn't her own, earning her doctorate in Traditional Chinese Medicine, and why she believes Eastern and Western medicine are meant to complement, not compete with, each other.
The second half of the episode breaks down what Traditional Chinese Medicine actually is — beyond the acupuncture needles and Gua Sha trends you've seen online. Dr. Sondrina explains foundational TCM concepts including Qi (vital life energy), Yin and Yang, the Five Elements, and the body's organ systems, plus TCM treatment modalities like acupuncture, acupressure, herbal medicine, cupping, Tui Na bodywork, Qigong, and Tai Chi.
