This time on 100 Songs; 1986, Chris wants to plot the map for the beginnings of what would grow into alt-country, a genre that would thrive in the very late '80s and particularly through the 1990s. We hear from artists including Dwight Yoakam, The Feelies, Steve Earle and Emmylou Harris, among others.

Yes, we have a new podcast. We are going through 100 songs released in 1986, picking one song per artist in an attempt to tell the story of a wild and oft-changing year in music. With each episode we (Tim and Chris) alternate with a 10-song theme.

This week on our deep dive into 1986, Tim takes us to a random day in August '86 to celebrate and discuss a community ravaged by HIV and AIDS. While the epidemic is one of the most important and heartbreaking stories of the 1980s, this episode attempts to highlight both the joy brought by some of the year's best songs, and those who rallied for and were a big part of the LGBTQ+ community during a challenging time.

This week on our deep dive into 1986, Chris wants us to take a trip around the world. Errr, sort of. There's a lot of Britain and U.S. here. But the idea is to feature songs about places. Errr, sort of. You'll get the B-52s, the Beastie Boys, Frank Zappa, Madonna and the Housemartins (for some reason).
