The Spirit of Generosity (Part 1)
2 Corinthians 9:10-11 (NLT) For God is the one who provides seed for the farmer and then breads to eat. In the same way, he will provide and increase your resources and then produce a great harvest of generosity in you. Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be GENEROUS. And when we take your gifts to those who need them, they will thank God.
Generous – liberal in giving or sharing; unselfish, charitable, benevolent, bountiful, kindhearted
Acts 20:35 (NLT) And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”
You give to what you love.
Romans 5:8 (NLT) But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.
I must give to God first before I give to anything else.
Exodus 13:2 (NLT) “Dedicate to me every firstborn among the Israelites. The first offspring to be born, of both humans and animals, belongs to me.”
Proverbs 3:9-10 (CEV) Honor the Lord by giving him your money and the first part of all your crops. Then you will have more grain and grapes than you will ever need.
I honor the Lord by laying aside something on the first day of the week.
1 Corinthians 16:2 (NLT) On the first day of each week, you should each put aside a portion of the money you have earned. Don’t wait until I get there and then try to collect it all at once.
The tithe (tenth) belongs to the Lord.
Leviticus 27:30 (CEV) Ten percent of everything you harvest is holy and belongs to me, whether it grows in your fields or on your fruit trees.
Bring your tithe into the House of God.
Exodus 23:19 (CEV) Each year bring the best part of your first harvest to the place of worship.
Genesis 14:14 (NLT) When Abram heard that his nephew Lot had been captured, he mobilized the 318 trained men who had been born into his household. Then he pursued Kedorlaomer’s army until he caught up with them at Dan.
Genesis 14:16 (NLT) Abram recovered all the goods that had been taken, and he brought back his nephew Lot with his possessions and all the women and other captives.
Genesis 14:18-20 (NLT) And Melchizedek, the king of Salem and a priest of God Most High, brought Abram some bread and wine. Melchizedek blessed Abram with this blessing: “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth. And blessed be God Most High, who has defeated your enemies for you.” Then Abram gave Melchizedek a tenth of all the goods he had recovered.
2 Corinthians 9:7-8 (NLT) “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” And God will GENEROUSLY provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.
