  • Ep 11: Sébastien Lagree, Creator and Founder, Lagree Fitness
    Aug 11 2026
Host Michael Chipman welcomes Sébastien Lagree, inventor, founder, and CEO of Lagree Fitness, for a wide-ranging conversation about the origins of the method, the evolution of the machines, and the decades of experimentation that shaped Lagree into what it is today.

From growing up outside Paris and discovering bodybuilding to arriving in Los Angeles with little money and an unexpected path into personal training, Sébastien shares how his understanding of resistance, intensity, and muscular endurance led him to rethink what was possible on a Pilates reformer. What began as a practical effort to give clients a more complete and challenging workout gradually became an entirely new method, supported by machines designed specifically to deliver it.

The conversation traces the development of Lagree through its earliest studio days, the creation of the Proformer and Megaformer, the shift from repetitions to time under tension, and the constant drive to remove interruption and improve the workout experience. It is also a candid look at innovation, studio ownership, trainer compensation, copycats, and why the true method cannot be reduced to individual exercises or equipment alone.
