  • Ep.74. Why I don't teach songs
    Dec 6 2025

    Send us a text

In this short solo episode, I break down why I’ve stopped teaching songs as the core of my guitar lessons. Songs are great — but they’re only one element of learning guitar. Over the years, I’ve seen too many intermediate players who can memorise riffs yet struggle with the fundamentals that actually make someone a musician: rhythm, timing, ear training, and transcription.

I explain why relying on song-based learning creates big gaps, how it holds players back in the long run, and what skills you should focus on instead if you want real, long-lasting improvement. If you’ve ever felt stuck on guitar despite “learning songs,” this episode will help you understand why — and how to fix it.
