Not the Best in the Series
This wasn't the best in series to me. It does have her usual thing that really annoys me. She has this incessant need to remind you of past events. Every single book has referenced the twins and what happened to her daughter. Every one has has reminded of the reasons her mother and brother are in care homes. It's hard to still want to pay attention when it happens over and over and involves every single thing that happened. Feels like she does it to hit a word count. Either that or she thinks everyone has the memory capacity of a goldfish.
The story itself differs from her usual serial killer trope. Incredibly predictable ending though. It's still a decent story if you don't require it to surprise you.
A cold case about 2 missing teenage girls nobody liked. The remains found on a farm being developed for housing. She spent more time with the story of the new team and new building than the investigation. The beginning had me not liking Whitney. Focused on how mad she was that new team members weren't doing it how she demanded. A lot of complaining and whining about that. It lacked any build up or suspense. Had wrap up neatly like typical tv cop show episode. If you get through the book you'd understand. Didn't want to "spoil" it. I'm incapable of stopping with series until the series ends. That's why I'll still buy every one, whether good or not.

Not so good .. disappointed again
I was disappointed with book 8, thought this instalment (book 9) would be back to the standard of 1-7 but no luck. This and previous book (8) seems to have lost their edge. The victims were cold cases, not likeable, the suspense wasn't there & I didn't bond to the characters. I really enjoyed the earlier books ... hoping book 10 goes back to the same quality

Enjoyable short story. And it is short.
Another great story enhanced by Clare Corbett's fantastic narration. My only gripe, with no apologies for noting it every time I review this series, is the poor value for money. The average read time of my other favourite authors is around 11hrs plus so these are to me ' short stories' particularly as almost 30 mins of the 'run time' is a preview of the next book!!!

Enjoyable but not believable
Think the references to work expected and disgracing staff who want a night off are really dated, out of touch with modern practices. Likeable characters on the whole but lots of repeated narrative in quite churned our series.
