Morrigan es una niña ocurrente y carismática con unos horribles padres que no le hacen ningún caso. Aunque eso no es lo peor, porque arrastra una maldición que la condena a morir antes de cumplir los once años. Pero eso no va a ocurrir puesto que la vigilia de su décimo primer cumpleaños alguien la secuestra y se la lleva a Nevermoor (un Londres paralelo), donde deberá superar cuatro pruebas si quiere estar entre los elegidos. El problema es que ya no podrá regresar jamás ya que sólo escapa a la muerte si se queda en Nevermoor.
