David Samwel wordt als baby bij een tempel in het zuiden van Thailand te vondeling gelegd. Er wordt met hem heen en weer gesjouwd. Van de tempel naar een ziekenhuis, naar het politiebureau, naar een weeshuis. Tot hij op tweejarige leeftijd aankomt in Nederland, bij zijn nieuwe ouders. Naarmate David ouder wordt, heeft hij steeds meer vragen. Hij weet dat er ergens iemand is die zijn waarheid kent.
