A story of two halves, documenting the life of Irene Dunroe–the first wife of Michael Peterson, now known as Charles Salvador, Britain’s most notorious and longest serving prisoner. The story will be told from two points of view, a chapter dedicated to Irene’s view from when she first met ‘Mick’, followed by a chapter dedicated to Charlie’s view.

In the winter of 1979, aged just 27, the inmate who would come to be known as 'Charlie Bronson' was considered uncontrollable by the prison system. Certified insane, he was transferred from Parkhurst Prison to the most infamous high-security psychiatric hospital in England, Broadmoor Asylum for the Criminally Insane. There he embarked on a one-man campaign to retain his sanity, and to fight against the brutality of a largely hidden regime that relied on enforced drug control.

Charles Bronson knows more about life in prison than anyone else in Britain - on either side of the bars. Jailed originally in 1974, his life since then has been one unbroken stretch of over 45 years, much of it in solitary confinement, moved again and again as prison after prison failed to contain his explosive temper. It would be enough to break an ordinary man - but Bronson is no ordinary man, and this is no ordinary prison diary.
