Seine erste Begegnung mit Stravinskys Geschichte vom Soldaten hatte Peter Fricke 1963 an den Städtischen Bühnen Köln, als er unter der Regie von Oscar Fritz Schuh erstmals den Soldaten gab. Harald Kreutzberg verkörperte damals den Teufel. 1973 in München am Cuvilliéstheater übernahm Peter Fricke seinerseits die Rolle des Teufels und Joachim Bißmeier die des Soldaten. Ausgerechnet bei dem sogenannten "Teufelstanz", mit dem Stravinskys Soldat ein letztes Mal versucht das Ruder herum zu reißen, was ihm vorübergehend auch gelingt, verunglückte Peter Fricke gleich bei der Premiere.
