Une fin de semaine de rêve s'annonce pour Charlie et ses amis Louis et Maggie, grands amateurs de films d'horreur. Ils comptent tourner une reprise d'Un maniaque au chalet, la nouvelle oeuvre de leur cinéaste favori, Hemon Globill. Alors qu'ils se préparent au tournage, au chalet des arrière-grands-parents de Charlie, au fin fond de la forêt, un criminel surnommé le Cinéaste s'évade de prison. Il veut lui aussi reprendre le dernier film de Globill, mais à sa façon, pour vrai. Le vieux chalet sera son décor, et Charlie et ses amis, ses "comédiens".
