The Lost World is the account of a scientific expedition by four highspirited Englishmen - two scientists, a biggame hunter, and a journalist - deep into the Amazon jungle. Über manche Fälle wollte ich den Mantel des Schweigens fallen lassen, da man nicht mit genauer Gewissheit die Geschehnisse rational nachvollziehen konnte. Durch meinen verehrten Kollegen H. P. Lovecraft sah ich mich aber gezwungen doch zumindest im kleinen Kreise Rechenschaft abzugeben und einen Bericht zu verfassen, der eine nüchternere Einschätzung der Ereignisse wieder gibt und sich nicht zu weit ins abenteuerliche Phantastische begibt.
