Hosted by Dr. Leah Clionsky, The Worth It Practice Podcast is where clinical wisdom meets fearless business strategy - built specifically for psychologists who want to run thriving private-pay practices and grow their group practice with purpose. Dr. Clionsky built a seven-figure, self-pay practice by believing one simple thing: I can learn anything - and so can you. Each week, she shares real lessons from her decade in the field - the wins, the missteps, and the mindset shifts that come from learning to think like a true therapist entrepreneur without losing your clinical edge. Designed with psychologists in mind, this isn’t business therapy or surface-level marketing advice. It’s about building a mental health business that actually works - with practice management systems, pricing models, and leadership strategies rooted in evidence, ethics, and the same curiosity that drives great clinical work. If you’re ready to approach your practice with clarity instead of confusion, business strategy instead of hustle, and confidence instead of doubt, you’re in the right place. Because scaling your practice isn’t magic - it’s learnable. And it’s Worth It. CONNECT WITH DR. • How I’m Making Everyone’s Life Worse: Learning to Step Back as a Practice Owner
    Oct 20 2026

    Watch this episode on YouTube!

I spent months working toward a business that wouldn't need me involved in every little decision. And now that I've finally gotten there, I've discovered something unexpected: I'm really bad at leaving it alone.

In fact, I managed to drive my entire leadership team crazy this week.

After months of restructuring our leadership team, building dashboards, creating automations, hiring, and moving into new office space, Thriving Child Center is finally running smoothly. But developing a CEO mindset doesn't automatically make stepping back easy.

Instead of enjoying the breathing room, I jumped into our team's Voxer conversations and started offering solutions to problems nobody had asked me to solve.

And I made everyone's jobs harder.

In this episode, I'm sharing what this experience taught me about delegation skills, shifting business priorities, and the surprisingly uncomfortable transition from building a business to letting it run.

    I talk about:

    • Why developing delegation skills means resisting the urge to solve problems you're no longer responsible for
    • How the CEO mindset changes when your team no longer needs your constant involvement
    • Why reassessing your business priorities is essential when you finally have more time
    • What I've learned about business and investing in systems, people, and leadership that can operate without me

Here's the uncomfortable truth: when I jump into every conversation, my opinion carries more weight simply because I'm the owner. I crowd out other ideas, waste my team's time, and accidentally teach capable people to depend on me.

That's not the outcome I wanted from all my work on delegation skills.

Now I'm asking myself where my time actually creates the most value. For me, that means more networking, content creation, strategic thinking, and maybe even taking better care of myself.

It's a different way of approaching business and investing in the future of my practice. Instead of spending my energy on day-to-day problems, I can focus on opportunities that only I can pursue.

The next stage of my CEO mindset is learning that being less essential to daily operations is actually a sign of success.

If you're reconsidering your business priorities after a season of intense growth, I hope this episode helps you recognize when it's time to step back.

Because sometimes the most valuable thing you can do for your business is give your team room to succeed.

And when it comes to business and investing, sometimes the hardest part of building something sustainable is trusting what you've already built.

  • The Surprising Secret Sauce to Filling a Private-Pay Group Practice
    Oct 13 2026

    Watch this episode on YouTube!

One of the questions I get asked most often is how I keep 20 clinicians busy in a completely private-pay group practice, especially when so many therapists are struggling to fill their caseloads.

When practice owners ask me how to find private pay clients, they usually expect me to talk about SEO, Google Ads, networking, or website strategy. And yes, those things matter. But there's another piece of the puzzle that I think gets overlooked.

Recently, I noticed that nearly all of our clinicians were getting busier except one. She was an excellent therapist with a strong specialty, so why weren't clients booking with her?

The answer revealed something important about how to attract clients that goes far beyond marketing.

In this episode, I'm sharing the client-matching strategy we use at Thriving Child Center and why effective communication between clinicians and our admin team makes such a difference.

    I talk about:

    • Why effective communication with your intake team can make or break a clinician's caseload
    • What prospective clients actually want to know before choosing a therapist
    • How to make your website and intake conversations more personal and compelling
    • Why understanding your clinicians is one of the most valuable therapist resources for growing a group practice

When you're figuring out how to find private pay clients, it's easy to focus entirely on bringing more inquiries through the door. But what happens after someone reaches out matters just as much.

Knowing how to attract clients means understanding what makes each clinician uniquely valuable and helping prospective clients recognize the right fit.

That's why I prioritize effective communication about each therapist's personality, approach, and strengths. It's also why I believe some of the best therapist resources are the relationships and conversations that help your team truly understand one another.

If you're wondering how to find private pay clients or how to attract clients who are excited to work with your clinicians, this episode will help you rethink your matching process.

You don't necessarily need more marketing. Sometimes you need to better communicate the value that's already inside your practice.

And as you grow, don't overlook the human connections that make your clinicians successful. Those relationships may be among your most important therapist resources

  • If You Were My Consulting Client, Here’s How We’d Think Through a Scary Decision
    Oct 6 2026

    Watch this episode on YouTube!

Business is a gamble. I’m constantly making investments, trying new strategies, and taking risks in my own practice. And as a consulting client, you’d probably come to me at some point and say, “Leah, I’m scared. What if this decision doesn’t work?”

I wouldn’t tell you not to do it. But I also wouldn’t tell you everything will magically work out.

Instead, I’d walk you through the same business decision-making framework I use myself.

In this episode, I’m sharing the risk management process I use when I’m facing a scary decision – and the questions I ask when someone I’m working with needs help deciding whether a risk is actually worth taking.

    I talk about:

    • Why your risk management process should include running the real numbers
    • Why a strong CEO mindset doesn’t mean assuming everything will work out
    • How better business decision-making can help you trust yourself instead of constantly looking for reassurance

I’ve made decisions that worked incredibly well, and I’ve made decisions that cost me money. That’s part of business. Developing a CEO mindset means accepting that uncertainty while still making thoughtful, informed choices.

And that’s ultimately what I want for every consulting client I work with. I don’t want you dependent on me to make every decision. I want to help you develop your own risk management process so you can evaluate opportunities and decide what makes sense for your business.

Strong business decision-making isn’t about eliminating risk. A CEO mindset isn’t about becoming fearless, either. It’s about understanding the risk you’re taking, what you stand to gain, what you could lose, and what you’ll do if things start going wrong.

Whether you’re currently a consulting client or simply wish you could bring your scary business decision into a session with me, this episode gives you the framework I’d use to help you think it through.
