Whatever! The Gen-X Podcast is for the generation that grew up on mixtapes, Saturday morning cartoons, and the firm belief that we'd never turn into our parents. Spoiler: we did anyway.

Every week, Dwayne and Heather dig into what it meant to grow up Gen X and what it means to live it out now. There's the music, the movies, the cultural moments we can't let go of, and the real stuff that comes with being a maturing generation nobody saw coming. Equal parts nostalgia trip and honest conversation, with enough humor to make it worth the ride.

Whatever. As if. Talk to the hand. We're back.

  • Gen X Nostalgia: You Have Died of Dysentery: The Bridge Generation
    Oct 23 2026

Dwayne and Heather pick up the long-corded kitchen phone this week and talk about being the bridge generation, the last kids to grow up before the internet and the first adults who had to figure it out. They look back at the analog life, the clunky early days of getting online, and the gadgets that made them feel like they’d hit the big time. They also dig into which old-school skills still pay off today, what younger folks picked up faster, and what it’s like living in a country that still loves its fax machines. Settle in, and try not to die of dysentery.

  • Gen X Nostalgia: Speak & Spell It Out: The Toys of Our Childhood
    Oct 16 2026

    All About Us

Dwayne and Heather went back to the toy box this week. They talked about the toys they loved, the ones they played with until they broke, and the ones that probably should have come with a warning label. They also covered the holiday crazes that sent parents into a frenzy and the playground trading that kept everyone's collections moving. Then they took a hard look at today's collector culture. Grab your favorite childhood memory and come play along.

Gen X Today: Latchkey to Life360

Were our parents negligent, or are we completely unhinged? Dwayne and Heather look back at growing up as Gen X latchkey kids, back when you had a house key on a shoelace, after-school reruns, homemade bike ramps, and one rule: be home when the streetlights come on. Then they turn the question on themselves. How did the most unsupervised generation in modern history become some of the most watchful parents?

The conversation covers free-range parenting vs. helicopter parenting, stranger danger and the 24-hour news cycle, play dates and travel sports, and the growing push for Reasonable Childhood Independence laws across the U.S.

They also share what childhood independence looks like from their home in Germany, where kids ride public buses on their own and the playgrounds still look like they came straight out of 1978. (Check out the photo of the old-school climbing net just down the street from them on their website. Your ten-year-old self would have lived on that thing.)

Grab your house key and a dime for the payphone. And tell us: what was the most free-range thing your parents ever let you do?
