  • Ghosts in Literature: A Christian Perspective
    Oct 31 2026

It's our Halloween special! This time, Rachel and Jason are exploring ghosts in literature—and what a Christian perspective brings to the conversation.

From the ancient stories of The Odyssey and The Aeneid to Shakespeare's Hamlet and Macbeth, and finally Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, ghosts have appeared in literature for centuries. But what do these mysterious figures really represent? Memory, guilt, grief, unfinished business—or something more?

We explore how ghost stories have changed throughout history, the influence of ancient beliefs and medieval Christianity, and what the Bible actually says about the dead, the spirit world, and attempts to communicate with those who have passed away.

Along the way, we consider the story of the rich man and Lazarus, the words of Jesus, the writings of Augustine, and the Christian hope of life beyond death. We also discuss why A Christmas Carol may be one of literature's most meaningful ghost stories—and how its supernatural visitors point toward questions of repentance, redemption, and the chains we forge in life.

This isn't simply a discussion about what goes bump in the night. It's a conversation about mortality, faith, grief, and the hope Christians have in Christ.

What's your favorite ghost story in literature or film? And do you think ghost stories can communicate meaningful truths about life, death, and faith? Let us know in the comments!

  • Daddy Long Legs (1955) - review
    Oct 24 2026

Rachel and Jason return for the fourth installment of Fred Astaire Month with Daddy Long Legs (1955), starring Fred Astaire and Leslie Caron!

This classic musical has charming performances, memorable songs, and imaginative dream sequences—but its central romance raises some surprisingly complicated questions. What happens when a wealthy benefactor becomes romantically interested in the young woman whose future he helped shape? Is it genuine love, materialism, or something more complicated?

We look beyond the dancing to explore the film’s age gap, the balance of power in relationships, and the ways people sometimes change themselves to win someone’s affection. We also discuss how the movie uses music and visual storytelling to reveal what its characters may not be able to say out loud.

As always, we’re looking at classic entertainment through a Christian lens, asking what these stories communicate about love, character, and relationships—and whether a movie that raises uncomfortable questions can still offer something worthwhile.

Have you seen Daddy Long Legs? Does its romance work for you, or do the age gap and power dynamics make it difficult to enjoy? Let us know in the comments!

  • Royal Wedding (1951) - Review - fixed
    Oct 23 2026

Welcome back to Fred Astaire Month on Weatherford Daze!

For Episode 84, Rachel and Jason cross the pond to explore Royal Wedding (1951), starring Fred Astaire and Jane Powell! This classic Hollywood musical brings colorful dance numbers, playful sibling chemistry, romantic complications, and one of the most unforgettable dance sequences in movie history.

We discuss what works—and what doesn’t—in this entry in Fred Astaire’s filmography. How does Jane Powell compare with the leading ladies of Top Hat and Easter Parade? Does the romance quite live up to the movie’s individual musical highlights? And what makes Astaire’s choreography and cinematic illusions so innovative?

Of course, we have to talk about the famous dance where Fred Astaire appears to dance on the walls and ceiling! Jason explores the clever filmmaking behind the illusion and the ways this iconic sequence has inspired later movies and performers.

But there’s more to Royal Wedding than dazzling choreography. Rachel and Jason discuss the film’s two romances, the challenges of balancing personal plans with relationships, and the idea that love can arrive when we least expect it.

From a Christian perspective, we consider why it’s important to make room for love, why marriage is worth taking seriously, and whether we sometimes wait for a perfect sign instead of taking the steps needed to build a relationship.

Is Royal Wedding Fred Astaire’s finest film? Rachel and Jason may not agree that it reaches the heights of his other classics—but there’s still plenty here to enjoy and discuss!

Your turn: Have you seen Royal Wedding? What do you think of Fred Astaire’s famous ceiling dance? And do you believe we should leave room in our plans for love to surprise us?

If you enjoy classic movies, Old Hollywood musicals, and thoughtful conversations about faith, family, and entertainment, like, comment, and subscribe to Weatherford Daze!

  • Autumn By The Sea (review)
    Oct 3 2026

Welcome to another entry in our series affectionately known as Books My Wife Read Recently! Rachel and Leya are celebrating fall with a book they both love: Melissa Tagg’s Autumn by the Sea.Set against the beautiful backdrop of coastal Maine, this story combines romance, mystery, found family, faith, and the cozy atmosphere of autumn. But as Rachel and Leya discuss, what makes the book especially meaningful isn't just the romance or the mystery—it's the way it explores healing, forgiveness, resilience, belonging, and learning to hope again. We talk about Sydney's search for where she belongs, Maggie's remarkable story of love and loss, the complicated humanity of the characters, and why this feels like such an honest example of Christian fiction. We also discuss what makes a romance genuinely romantic without becoming inappropriate, why Christian characters shouldn't have to be portrayed as perfect, and why stories about people who are still struggling can sometimes nourish our faith more than stories that feel like sermons. And, of course, we talk about why this book feels so incredibly FALL.If you enjoy clean romance, Christian fiction, cozy mysteries, found-family stories, or books that leave you with a little more hope than you had when you started, this one may be worth putting on your fall reading list.Have you read Autumn by the Sea?
