  • The Back Row of Faith | UQPK Ep9
    Jan 16 2026

In this episode of UnqualifiedPk, we talk about a kind of faith that doesn’t get much airtime — the faith that lives quietly in the background.

The kind that shows up every Sunday but sits against the back wall.
The kind that loves Jesus deeply but doesn’t want a microphone, a platform, or a stage.

We unpack the tension many people feel in church and Christian culture:

the pressure to be visible to be considered “faithful”

the assumption that obedience always looks public

the guilt that comes with not wanting the spotlight

and the fear that quiet faith means weak faith

This conversation is personal for us — because we’ve always been “back row people.”
    Not disengaged. Not checked out.
Just drawn to stillness, safety, and faith that doesn’t perform.

    We talk honestly about:

why being seen spiritually can feel uncomfortable

how church culture sometimes confuses visibility with obedience

why God often does His deepest work in the unseen

how faith can be strong without being loud

and how comparison and performance quietly distort our view of faith

Using Scripture like Psalm 46:10, Matthew 6:1–4, and 1 Samuel 16:7, we’re reminded that God isn’t looking for a platform — He’s looking at the heart.

    If you’ve ever felt:

    “I love Jesus… I just don’t want the stage.”

    This episode is for you.

  • Love Isn’t a Feeling — It’s the Decision to Give | UQPK Ep8
    Jan 8 2026

In this episode of UnqualifiedPk, we talk about one of the most overused — and misunderstood — words in Christianity: love.

Most of us grew up believing love was a feeling.
    Something emotional.
    Something warm.
Something that comes naturally when circumstances are good.

But when we slow down and look at Scripture, we start to realize:
biblical love doesn’t look anything like the version we’ve been taught.

    This conversation unpacks why:

    love isn’t primarily emotional
    love isn’t about comfort
    love often costs something
love is proven through sacrifice, not words

    We talk honestly about:

why love and suffering are often connected
how love can exist even when feelings disappear
why staying can be an act of love
how misunderstanding love has shaped our marriage
why love is often quiet, unseen, and uncelebrated
and why Jesus defines love through action, not emotion

Using Scripture and our own story, we wrestle with what it actually means to love — not in theory, not in a sermon, but in real life, when relationships are strained, seasons are heavy, and obedience feels costly.

    If you’ve ever thought:

“Why does love feel so hard?”
    or
“Why doesn’t love feel the way I expected it to?”

    …this episode is for you.

  • Joy Isn’t a Feeling — It’s the Decision to Stay | UQPK Ep7
    Dec 18 2025

In this episode of UnqualifiedPk, we wrestle with one of the most misunderstood words in Christianity: joy.

We both assumed joy was a feeling — excitement, happiness, a good season of life.
But the more we studied Scripture (and honestly questioned our own assumptions), the more we realized… we didn’t actually know what biblical joy was.

    This conversation unpacks why:

    joy isn’t circumstantial

joy isn’t pretending things are okay

joy often shows up in suffering, not the absence of it

joy is deeply connected to perseverance, eternity, and trust

    We talk openly about:

why happiness can be taken, but joy cannot

how guilt and shame can block joy

    why comparison quietly steals it

how joy can exist alongside grief

and why joy might simply be keeping the faith when quitting would be easier

Using James 1:2–3, John 16:22, and other Scripture, we try to make sense of what joy actually looks like in real life — not in theory, not in a sermon, but in the middle of pain, unanswered prayers, and ongoing struggles.

    If you’ve ever thought:

    “I don’t think I’m a joyful person…”

…this episode might give you a completely different perspective.

  • Hope, Peace & the Pain That Shapes Us (Advent Reflections) | UQPK Ep6
    Dec 11 2025

In Episode 6 of UnqualifiedPk, we dive into the Advent season — not the polished version you see on church stages, but the real-life version of hope and peace when life feels heavy, confusing, or downright impossible.

Advent traditionally invites Christians to slow down, reflect, and anticipate the arrival of Jesus.
But what do you do when life speeds up instead?
    When suffering feels endless?
When hope feels hard to find… and peace feels impossible to hold onto?

This week we talk openly about:

why the Bible teaches that suffering → perseverance → character → hope

how hope is rooted in eternity, not circumstances

why peace is often hard to explain but unmistakable when you feel it

how Advent calls us to look backward to the manger and forward to the return of the King

carrying hope while walking through real-time pain

why “pure joy in trials” feels crazy… unless you’ve lived it

    We’re not Advent experts.
We’re two people sitting in front of microphones trying to cling to hope and peace while navigating a season we didn’t expect — just like many of you.

    If you’ve ever wondered:

“Why does following Jesus sometimes feel harder, not easier?”

    …this conversation will resonate deeply.

  • When You Know You’re Forgiven But Still Feel Stuck | UnqualifiedPK Ep5
    Dec 5 2025

In Episode 5 of UnqualifiedPk, we break the “episode 4 curse” and invite you into our real-time struggle — not a polished testimony from years ago, but what we’re walking through this week.

Adrienne shares honestly about wrestling to feel forgiven, even though she knows God has already wiped her clean. Travis talks about carrying the weight of the past while trying to fight new battles, and how comparison has stolen joy for years.

We read and unpack 1 John 1:5–10 (NIV) — light and darkness, sin and forgiveness — and talk about what it actually looks like to believe:

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”

In this episode, we talk about:

Why episode 5 almost didn’t happen

How shame from the past still tries to wreck the present

The difference between feelings and truth

finding your identity in Christ instead of in your spouse, success, or story

Spiritual warfare when you start stepping into obedience

Why we’re doing this podcast even when it hurts

    If you’ve ever thought:

“I KNOW God forgives me… so why do I still feel dirty, disqualified, or behind?”

    …this one is for you.

    📖 1 John 1:5–10 (NIV)

  • Gratitude vs. Anxiety | Thanksgiving & God’s Peace | UnqualifiedPk Ep4
    Nov 27 2025

It’s Thanksgiving week, and after a few heavy episodes, we wanted to sit down, breathe a little, and talk about gratefulness—not in a cheesy way, but in a real, practical, “this actually helps my anxiety” kind of way.

In this episode of UnqualifiedPk, we share some of the things we’re genuinely thankful for right now: our home and this little podcast corner, the wild journey of doing a show together as a married couple, our blended family and co-parenting story, the community sports have brought into our lives, and yes… our 85-pound blanket-loving American Bulldog, Bella (and her near-death Thanksgiving caffeine story).

We also get into Philippians 4:6–7 and talk about why Paul’s words about anxiety and thanksgiving hit different when you remember he wrote them from prison. Then we connect that to modern psychology and research that shows practicing gratitude actually lowers stress and anxiety and can bring a real sense of peace.

If the holidays are hard for you—because of grief, family dynamics, or just feeling worn out—we see you. Our prayer is that this conversation gives you a few tools, a little hope, and a reminder that God is near, even when life feels anything but peaceful.

  • Our Abortion, Our Shame, His Grace | UnqualifiedPK Podcast Ep3
    Nov 20 2025
Content Warning: In this episode we talk honestly about abortion, shame, and spiritual warfare. Please watch with care if this is a sensitive topic for you.

In Episode 3 of UnqualifiedPK, we share one of the most painful parts of our story: the abortion we had over a decade ago. As two pastor’s kids who “knew better,” this was never something we imagined would be part of our lives or our marriage. But it is. And hiding it nearly destroyed us.

We talk about how that decision affected our relationship, our faith, our sense of identity, and even everyday moments like baby showers and simple arguments in the kitchen. Adrienne shares the deep shame, anger, and “I’m not a real mom” lies she carried for years. Trav shares what it was like to watch her hurt and to wrestle with his own guilt and avoidance.

Most importantly, we talk about Jesus—about what it’s meant to believe that even this was nailed to the cross. We share how confession, transparency, and community have helped bring real healing, and how God has used even this part of our story to bring freedom and hope to others.

If you’ve walked through abortion, are carrying secret shame, or feel like God could never forgive that one thing… this episode is for you. You are not alone, and there is real hope and real grace.
