  • Uncle Jonesy's Cameras Podcast #87: Slow or Fast, It's All About the Print
    Jan 9 2026

The Shutter Brothers are back in 2026 and ready to make a show about the joy of darkroom printing. So, after a morning printing session at the new Safelight District Community Darkroom, Wayne and Kevin are ready to share tips on how to make more and better prints from your negatives. Along the way they discuss different approaches to making test strips, which can not only save time and money, but also help get the best image on paper. Also, in response to a listener question, Wayne explains how split grade printing can be used to dial in the right amount of exposure in both highlight and shadow areas.

Meanwhile, Kevin is interested in a different sort of printing: Poloaroid instant photography. He recently tried to use his beloved SX-70 SONNAR One Step for some holiday fun, but he could not find his neutral density filter that enables him to shoot Polaroid 600 film instead of the SX-70 film the camera was build to use. And while Tori Fyth Elliot, the owner of Safelight District Community Darkroom, was able to save the day by loaning Kevin a Polaroid 600 camera to use, Kevin is giving serious thought to having his SX-70 SONNAR serviced and modified to natively shoot 600 film. Listen to the show to hear all the advantages of this.

It's a new year, and Wayne and Kevin are already thinking about the 5th Annual Photowalk with the Shutter Brothers. If you live in the southeastern Unitted States and would like to suggest a location for this year's photowalk, send them to us at unclejonesyscameras@gmail.com.

  • Uncle Jonesy's Cameras Podcast #84: Shoot Film Save Money
    Aug 24 2025

Is is possible to be a film photographer and save money? Shutter Brothers Wayne and Kevin think so, and they break it down in their latest UJC Podcast. And it's not just about shooting cheaper film.

The Shutter Bros. also share memories of The Great Film Photo Meetup, which took place August 9-10 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Well over twenty film photographers (ncluding several podcast hosts) from from at least seven states gathered in The Scenic City to make photographs and get to know each other. The event was a complete success, and the only question now is where will it be held next year? Stay tuned.

Wayne and Kevin round out the show with an email updste from listener Ryan regarding his effort to use an LED light source for his enlarger.

  • Uncle Jonesy's Cameras Podcast #82: Triptych the Light Fantastic
    Jul 17 2025

After an early summer break, Wayne and Kevin have film to develop, prints to make, and project to pursue. Kevin's project has been making contact print triptychs using one of the cheapest new cameras availbable today, the "Plastic Filmtastic" Debonair 120 from the Film Photography Store. This $20 camera often gets compared with the legandary Holga, but it is not the same camera. While the Debonair also has a plastic lens, Kevin believes that it makes better photographs than the Holga while still producing vintage vignetting effects. However, what really separates the Debonair from the Holga is that the Debonair makes 6x4.5cm rectangle images (as opposed to the Holga's 6x6cm square images). Inspired by Wayne's idea of using his Fuji GS645 camera as a medium format 'half-frame' camera, Kevin began photography old business signs with his Debonair with an eye toward contact printing three images on a singel 4x6 postcard. It's still in the 'proof-of-concept' stage, but the possibilities are real indeed!

Meahwhile, Wayne empties out the UJC mailbag and reads some great listener feedback. And finally, the Shutter Brothers discuss the Great Film Photo Meetup Chattanooga, which happens on Saturday and Sunday, August 9-10.

  • Uncle Jonesy's Cameras Podcast #81: You Should Have Been There
    May 22 2025

The Shutter Brothers are waxing nostalgic about the old days of local camera and photography shops - and that's easy for them to do, because Kevin spent many happy hours hanging out in them, and Wayne actually work in and owned one. All we can say is "you should have been there," because it was a magical as you would expect - if you are as crazy about cameras as we are.

The official start of summer is just days away, and both Wayne and Kevin are thinking about travel photography and (of course) travel film cameras. So, Wayne gives a run down of his recent acquistion the Fuji GS645 Professional Wide 60 medium format rangefinder camera and how it might be a good choice for travel photography. Meanwhile, Kevin is preparing for his first ever trip to California by choosing a camera to take along. You guessed it, it's his Leica M2. What is your go to travel film camera?

The Shutter Brothers are excited about a photowalk that will take place in Chattanooga on August 9-12 involving many of your favorite film photography podcasters. Listen for details. Oh, and we also give away a Minolta Maxxum XTsi AF 35mm AF camera complete with a Minolta AF 35-70mm f4 zoom lens.

  • Uncle Jonesy's Cameras Podcast #80: Everyday I Shoot the Book
    Apr 12 2025

The Shutter Brothers (Wayne and Kevin) are back and ready to talk about photobooks. Kevin has recently become acquainted with the published work of the American photographer, Robert Adams, and in particular his book, Summer Nights, Walking. Having found several YouTube about Summer Nights, Walking, Kevin made the decision to find a copy and purchase it, and now he is able to view the photographs in the manner Robert Adams intended - in a finely published book. Does this matter? Listen to find out.

Next, the Shutter Bros. discuss the concept of revisiting past photographic efferts and the good things that might result. Whether it be revisiting a subject, a darkroom print, or even a piece of grear, sometimes the passage of time alone can be worth the effort and produces a 'remake' that becomes the keeper.

Kevin wants to give a big shout out to listener's Todd and Jason for generaouly sending him several darkroom prints over the past year or so. And speaking of sharing, Kevin is giving away his Minolta Maxxum XTsi 35mm camera paired with a Maxxum AF 35-70mm f4 zoom lens to a lucky listener. Finally, Wayne and Kevin have decided on a location for the 4th Annual Photowalk with the Shutter Brothers.

You can enter the contest and/or send us comments, questions, tips, reviews, and stories to unclejonesyscameras@gmail.com. You also can find us on Facebook and Instagram, and feel free to leave your feedback there. Until next time . . .
