  • The Saw Franchise Part 2 + Euphoria S3 Ep.3 (Saw VI - X)
    May 1 2026

We’re back to the horror genre this week and finishing the Saw franchise. Before we discuss the next five films, we talk about a few new trailers/teasers that dropped (One Night Only and Verity) and our future plans to see The Devil Wears Prada 2. Good Boy also recently dropped on Hulu, so we decided to check out this dog-themed horror movie. We did think this was a creative concept, but it wasn’t completely executed properly. We were both interested in seeing what else could be done with a horror film from a dog’s perspective, and loved little Indy! Euphoria was also on the docket this week, and we continue to be disappointed. We’re hoping things start to pick up after this episode, but it really seems that the core of some of the main characters have changed for an unknown reason.

The last five films in the Saw franchise certainly aren’t as strong as the first few, but we chalk that up to those involved not thinking it would be as popular as it became. The timeline continues to be convoluted and we didn’t love how long the Strahm storyline carried on. We included Jigsaw and Spiral in this set of films even though they’re spinoffs/prequels, but we went in release order for this theme. We definitely had some issues with both of these films and felt that they were, unfortunately, the weakest of the bunch. Overall, this franchise is beloved by horror fans and the loyalty would be there if/when Saw XI gets released. The original concept of John Kramer and his victims is so strong and we think the writers should just focus on that.

  • Classic Disney Princesses + Euphoria Season 3 Episodes 1 & 2 (Mulan, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Cinderella)
    Apr 24 2026

After watching four Saw movies last week, we needed a little break. So, we decided to go to the complete opposite end of the spectrum and throw it back with some classic Disney. Hannah also shared that she watched Lee Cronin’s The Mummy, Ready or Not, Tusk, HIM, and Shelby Oaks, so she didn’t completely stray from the horror genre. To begin this episode, we break down the first two episodes of Euphoria season three. To say we’re feeling underwhelmed so far would be an understatement. To us, it really feels like some of the characters have completely changed with no explanation and there’s a very obvious tone change which could have to do with a new production designer and composer. Labrinth not being involved in this season is a huge loss as his music really played an integral role in making season one and two so iconic. We’re going to continue to watch and we’re trying to keep an open mind, but this season isn’t working for us so far.

Something that does still work for us is a Classic Disney Princess. Yes, we hold some heavy nostalgia for these films, but after watching them with adult eyes, they do still hold up. There’s something to be said about the style of the animation, the writing, and the music in these films that we just don’t find in children’s movies today. Even Disney itself has strayed away from what worked for so long. We can admit that some of the messaging in these older films aren’t completely empowering to young girls (Cinderella and The Little Mermaid), but they still create worlds that are easy to get immersed in and feel connected to. The only one that didn’t totally hold up for us as much as the others was The Little Mermaid. This is a cute film, but we would have liked to see more under the sea scenes and the overall plot is questionable. One that absolutely still tops our list is Mulan. From the music, to the storyline, to the action sequences, this one really does have it all. Mulan will forever be a standout that resonates to multiple generations. There was no reason for Disney to go that hard with the songs and some of the dialogue in this film, but we’re glad they did.

  • The Saw Franchise (Saw II - V)
    Apr 17 2026

After watching Saw last week inspired us to continue watching the rest of the franchise. This week, we focus on the next four films in the franchise and how the story of Jigsaw evolves. Before we give our thoughts, we talk about Coachella and Justin Bieber’s impactful performance, getting tickets to see sombr this fall, and a breakup in the Love is Blind universe. While we were recording, the news also broke that D4vd was arrested for the murder of teenager Celeste Rivas Hernandez back in September. On a lighter note, Hannah also watched the new Netflix film, Thrash, which combines sharks and hurricanes. As promised, we finished watching the second season of Euphoria ahead of the season three premiere. We’ll be recapping both episode one and two of the new season next week!

Some people might be adverse to the Saw franchise since it’s very graphic, but we do find some psychological depth to the films. Yes, the traps are disturbing, but we find the story of Jigsaw compelling and it elevates it compared to some other horror films. When watching multiple films back-to-back, it’s easier to see some of the flaws in the storyline. While the interactions between the victims are usually pretty good and the twists still get you, the extra backstory added to Jigsaw and the intentions behind his successor fall a bit flat. Next week, we’ll be taking a little break from the franchise, but we’ll be back later to finish up the rest of the films!

  • Shocking Plot Twists + The Drama & The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Reviews (Shutter Island, Arrival, Saw)
    Apr 10 2026

Shocking plot twists are the name of the game this week on the pod! We’ve already watched quite a few films with twists before this theme, but there are plenty more to explore. Before we dive into those, we discuss some new releases we saw in theaters. The Drama was a really fun watch because we saw it with a reactive audience on a Friday night. Even though the surprise was ruined for Hannah by TMZ, there were other things in this film that were unexpected. Overall, we enjoyed it and thought it brought up some interesting conversations and thoughts. Hannah also took her kids to see The Super Mario Galaxy Movie since they enjoyed the first film. Unfortunately, Hannah didn’t enjoy this and her children weren’t invested either.

Plot twists are great in films, if they’re done correctly. After this rewatch of Shutter Island, we’re still a little unsure of the execution of this one. While it does have a surprising turn of events, we don’t completely buy into how things turn out at the end. With that being said, Leonardo DiCaprio gives another wonderful performance which really takes this one to the next level. Arrival is a film that neither of us had seen, and shockingly, the twist had never been spoiled for us. The acting fell a little flat and it starts a little slowly, but things do come together in the end. This is another film that almost feels more like a thought experiment! Lastly, we watched Saw. What can we say about this iconic film? Both of us have been fans of this franchise for a long time, but it’s been a while since we’d seen the first installment. Needless to say, this film really holds up and the twist is shocking even though we know it’s coming.

  • Actors as Directors (The Lost Daughter, Is This Thing On?, The Testament of Ann Lee)
    Apr 3 2026

This week on Two Girl Cinema Club, we’re focusing on actors who made the transition to directing. Before we dive into this week’s theme, Ailish shares her thoughts on Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, and Hannah talks about Stopmotion and Clown in a Cornfield. We also talk about some upcoming releases and our plans to see The Drama opening weekend!

There have been many actors who have dipped their toes in directing, and we tackle a few of them in this week’s episode. We started with Maggie Gyllenhaal and her directing debut with The Lost Daughter. This one felt appropriate since we recently watched The Bride!, and we had mixed feelings. The Lost Daughter has a completely different feeling compared to Gyllenhaal’s most recent endeavour, but both films felt a bit underdone to us. We actually really enjoyed Dakota Johnson in this role which isn’t something we saw often. Is This Thing On? is Bradley Cooper’s third film as a director. Each of his films have had very different vibes as well, and Is This Thing On? has the most casual/lighthearted feeling of the three. We both enjoyed this one, but we felt the separate paths of Laura Dern and Will Arnett’s characters could have been expanded on. Adding The Testament of Ann Lee by Mona Fastvold is a little bit of a stretch, but Fastvold has acted in the past. This was a film we had been waiting to see for months, so when we finally saw it on streaming, we couldn’t pass it up! After watching, it’s clear the calls for an Oscar snub are warranted.

  • Remembering the Greats: Diane Keaton (Annie Hall, Father of the Bride, The First Wives Club, Book Club)
    Mar 27 2026

This week on Two Girl Cinema Club, we remember the late, great, Diane Keaton who we lost nearly six months ago. Before we discuss her filmography, Ailish gives her thoughts on Project Hail Mary, and the play, Dog Day Afternoon that she saw in NYC. Ailish was finally able to watch Materialists, so we were able to properly discuss the film. Hannah also shared that TMZ unfortunately spoiled the twist in The Drama when the movie wasn’t even set to be widely released for another week.

Sadly, we lost multiple icons in 2025 and Diane Keaton was one of them. We started this week’s episode by watching Annie Hall which neither of us had seen. This was a cute and funny film overall, but it really is marred by the allegations and controversies surrounding Woody Allen. Since he made himself the main character, it’s really difficult to fully separate him from this classic. Keaton takes a backseat in Father of the Bride, but still shines bright. This is such a cute film and Steve Martin is the classic, stressed dad. The First Wives Club is one of the great films about female friendships. It’s hard to believe these ladies aren’t actual lifetime friends because their chemistry is unbelievable! Lastly, we watched Book Club which is another sweet film that explores female friendships and relationships as we age. Can we recruit a couple more ladies to join our future book club?!

  • Celebrating Paul Thomas Anderson + Oscars Talk and The Bride! (Magnolia, Boogie Nights, Licorice Pizza)
    Mar 20 2026

Paul Thomas Anderson won big at last weekend’s Oscars with One Battle After Another. To celebrate this, we decided this week’s theme should explore some films from his career! Before we dive into that, we recap some highlights from the Oscar ceremony and talk about some of the big winners. Ailish also shared some industry news and both of us gave our takes on Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Bride!. While we weren’t overly enthusiastic about this film as a whole, we did appreciate the creativity and the idea of new ideas coming to the big screen.

We began our PTA theme with Boogie Nights. It’s honestly difficult to believe that he wrote and directed this when he was about 26 because it’s such an impressive film. We love Mark Wahlberg in this and wish he did more films with this kind of energy. Magnolia is a film that we had both heard a lot about, especially after the release of Weapons. This is an example of a lot going on at the same time, but the way it’s all presented and how it comes together makes it effective and allows things to become more clear. Tom Cruise is everything in this and it makes us excited for Digger later this year. Unfortunately, Licorice Pizza did not work for us. The age-gap romance was disturbing to us and the overall film didn’t flow like we’d hoped.

  • Revisiting the 2025 Oscars Part 2 + Love is Blind Reunion (I’m Still Here, Dune: Part 2, A Complete Unknown)
    Mar 13 2026

We’re continuing to revisit last year’s Best Picture nominees with the Oscars happening this Sunday. Before we dive into our thoughts on that, we recap the first two episodes of Euphoria Season 2 and the Love is Blind Reunion. After last week’s finale, we were eager to see how the couples are doing and there were definitely some bombshells dropped! We also gave our review of Pillion, and Ailish shared her take on Blue Moon with Ethan Hawke.

In preparation for the Oscars this Sunday, we give our Oscar predictions. While we make choices based on how we’d like to take home the prize and who we actually think will, there aren’t any nominees that we wouldn’t be happy with. It was a great year for films! Taking a step back to last year’s Best Picture nominees, we watched three more films this week. We rewatched A Complete Unknown which we felt got slighted last year with zero wins. Timmy really did portray Bob Dylan fantastically and he probably should have taken home the award. We also watched Dune: Part 2 which also stars Chalamet. Visually, this film is incredible and we can’t wait to watch the third installment on the big screen this winter. Lastly, we watched I’m Still Here for the first time. This was a harrowing account of a terrible time in Brazil’s history and it was depicted with emotion and intrigue.
