• 003: The Art of Letting Go: What Your Gut, Grief & Poop Are Telling You.
    Oct 20 2026

What if your body is holding on to more than you realize?

We talk about letting go of relationships, painful experiences, and emotional baggage. But what about the things our bodies are struggling to release?

In this fascinating and eye-opening episode of The Space Between Podcast, Dr. Sondrina Bullitt DAOM, MPH, L.Ac takes us on a journey through one of the body's most overlooked—and often misunderstood—organ systems: the large intestine, also known as the colon.

And yes, we're talking about poop!

But this conversation goes much deeper than bathroom habits.

Blending the ancient wisdom of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) with modern gastrointestinal science, Dr. Sondrina explores the relationship between colon health, emotional stress, grief, and the body's natural ability to eliminate what it no longer needs.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the large intestine is associated with the autumn season, the metal element, and the process of letting go. But what happens when grief goes unprocessed? How might chronic stress affect our digestion? And what can our bowel movements reveal about our overall well-being?

    In this episode, you'll discover:

    • The fascinating function of your colon: Understanding the anatomy of the large intestine, how it processes waste, and why healthy elimination matters.

    • The connection between grief and gut health: Exploring how Traditional Chinese Medicine associates grief, sorrow, and emotional stagnation with the lungs and large intestine.

    • What your poop may be telling you: How changes in stool consistency, frequency, and bowel habits can provide important clues about your digestive health.

    • The gut-brain connection: How stress, cortisol, and the nervous system can influence digestion, bowel movements, and the gut microbiome.

    • Eastern wisdom meets Western science: Understanding common TCM patterns and how Dr. Sondrina relates them to conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), constipation, diarrhea, and other gastrointestinal concerns.

    • The importance of colon cancer awareness: Why preventive screenings, family history, and proactive healthcare conversations matter.

    • Practical ways to support your gut: From fiber-rich foods and mindful nutrition to movement, restorative sleep, and emotional processing.

Throughout the conversation, Dr. Sondrina reminds us that true wellness requires more than simply treating symptoms. It involves listening to our bodies, understanding our emotional experiences, and making intentional choices that support healing.

And as the autumn season invites us to release what no longer serves us, this episode leaves us with a powerful question:

"What are you carrying that your body is trying to help you release at this time?"

Whether you're navigating digestive challenges, processing grief, exploring holistic wellness, or simply curious about the connection between your mind and body, this episode offers a fresh perspective on what it means to truly let go.

Because sometimes, healing begins when we finally make room to release.

In Episode 2 of The Space Between Podcast, Dr. Sondrina Bullitt, DAOM, MPH, L.Ac explores how Traditional Chinese Medicine views the fall season and its relationship to the lungs and large intestine.

According to Chinese medicine, autumn is connected to the metal element—a season of slowing down, turning inward, and learning what the body needs to hold onto and what it needs to release.

Dr. Sandrina breaks down the relationship between the lungs and large intestine and explains why changes in breathing, digestion, skin, immunity, sadness, grief, and bowel habits may become more noticeable during the fall.

    • Why the lungs and large intestine are paired in Traditional Chinese Medicine

  • My Journey to Traditional Chinese Medicine: Healing Eczema, Understanding Qi & the Real Meaning of TCM
    Sep 22 2026

In this founding episode of The Space Between Podcast, Dr. Sondrina Bullitt, Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine, shares the personal health journey that led her away from Western medicine and into holistic healing. After years of misusing a prescribed steroid cream for eczema, Dr. Sondrina experienced a frightening full-body reaction — hair loss, systemic inflammation, and sudden food sensitivities — that sent her searching for answers Western medicine couldn't give her.

That search led her to gut healing, naturopathic medicine, food sensitivity testing, and eventually acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine — the practice she now teaches through this show. She opens up about becoming a Black American woman practicing an ancestral medicine that isn't her own, earning her doctorate in Traditional Chinese Medicine, and why she believes Eastern and Western medicine are meant to complement, not compete with, each other.

The second half of the episode breaks down what Traditional Chinese Medicine actually is — beyond the acupuncture needles and Gua Sha trends you've seen online. Dr. Sondrina explains foundational TCM concepts including Qi (vital life energy), Yin and Yang, the Five Elements, and the body's organ systems, plus TCM treatment modalities like acupuncture, acupressure, herbal medicine, cupping, Tui Na bodywork, Qigong, and Tai Chi.

    In this episode:

    • Dr. Sondrina's personal healing journey from steroid-induced eczema to holistic medicine

    • Gut health, food sensitivity testing, and naturopathic healing

    • Why she chose Traditional Chinese Medicine over Western and naturopathic paths

    • What Qi actually means and its five core functions in the body

    • An introduction to Yin and Yang, the Five Elements, and TCM organ systems

    • TCM modalities explained: acupuncture, herbal medicine, cupping, Gua Sha, Tui Na, Qigong, and Tai Chi

    • A preview of Episode 2: the lung and large intestine systems and supporting health through the fall/autumn season

  • Preview -Healing in the Space Between: A Journey with Dr. Sondrina
    Sep 19 2026

Welcome to the very first episode of The Space Between Podcast. In this founding episode, Dr. Sondrina Bullitt — Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine — opens the space with an honest check-in: not the autopilot "I'm fine," but a real invitation to pause and notice how you're actually feeling, emotionally and in your body.

From there, Dr. Sondrina takes us into her own story: how a Black American woman found her path into the ancient, deeply rooted practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and what that journey taught her about healing, identity, and integrative care. She then lays the groundwork for what TCM actually is — setting the stage for the deeper, seasonal, and body-literate conversations this show will explore episode after episode.

This is more than an introduction — it's a mini-ritual. A breath. A moment to arrive before the work begins.

    In this episode:

    • A guided emotional check-in to open the space

    • Dr. Sondrina's personal journey into Traditional Chinese Medicine

    • Why representation matters in holistic and integrative health

    • A first look at what TCM is and why it matters for modern healing
