LA CALMA È LA VIRTÙ DEI (PILOTI) FORTI!

Dopo essere PASSati dal circuito La Conca per il primo round del Campionato Europeo FIA Karting OK-OKJ, ne parliamo nel nostro nuovo podcast, nato proprio per raccontare le gare internazionali di go-kart e i loro protagonisti.

Sono emersi diversi temi caldi a Muro Leccese: da una situazione gomme che fa ancora discutere a un dominio del pacchetto Kart Republic - IAME, PASSando per una serie di duelli incandescenti che hanno animato il primo atto di un grande spettacolo. Anche gli errori decisivi di alcuni piloti hanno caratterizzato questo inizio di stagione FIA Karting, osservato attentamente dalle Academy dei team di Formula 1. Pare che Audi e Cadillac stiano cercando giovani talenti da supportare, aggiungendosi così a Ferrari, Mercedes, McLaren, Red Bull, Aston Martin, Williams e Alpine, già presenti nelle categorie OK e OKJ con i loro programmi junior.

A proposito di talenti, hanno fatto la differenza quelli che sono stati in grado di mantenere il sangue freddo nonostante la pressione e l’intensità di alcuni momenti. Uno di loro è Niccolò Perico, che ha anche “accompagnato” il contributo del nostro primo “inviato” Riccardo Negro dopo aver mostrato ancora una volta il suo atteggiamento da campione.

Mentre noi abbiamo anche assegnato i primi premi di The Pass – Race Talks e, reduci dallo scarso successo dei nostri primi pronostici, ne abbiamo fatti altri in vista del secondo round del Campionato Europeo FIA Karting OK-OKJ!

After PASSing by the La Conca circuit for the first round of the FIA Karting European Championship OK-OKJ, we talk about it in our new podcast, created specifically to narrate international go-kart races and their protagonists.

Several hot topics emerged in Muro Leccese: from a tyre situation that is still a topic of discussion to the dominance of the Kart Republic - IAME package, PASSing through a series of heated duels that lit up the opening act of a great show. The decisive mistakes of some drivers also marked the beginning of this FIA Karting season, closely observed by the Academies of the Formula 1 teams. It seems that Audi and Cadillac are looking for young talents to support, thus joining Ferrari, Mercedes, McLaren, Red Bull, Aston Martin, Williams and Alpine, already active in the OK and OKJ categories with their junior programmes.

Speaking of talent, those who were able to keep their cool despite the pressure and the intensity of certain moments made the difference. One of them is Niccolò Perico, who also “accompanied” the contribution of our first “correspondent” Riccardo Negro after showing his champion attitude once again.

Meanwhile, we also awarded the first prizes of the Pass – Race Talks and, following the poor results of our first predictions, we made some more ahead of the second round of the FIA Karting European Championship OK-OKJ!

Abbiamo costruito questo studio, completamente a tema motorsport, per parlare con voi delle gare internazionali di go-kart e dei loro protagonisti. Al centro ci saranno sempre le storie, piene di PASSione.

Ci sembra che ultimamente il karting venga menzionato più spesso nel mondo delle corse, specialmente grazie ai giovani piloti di Formula 1 che PASSano in pochi anni dalla scuola dell’automobilismo alla sua massima espressione. Alcuni vengono già scelti dai team della classe regina quando sono ancora impegnati nelle competizioni kartistiche. Se quindi da un lato pare che ci sia più interesse per questa disciplina, dall’altro percepiamo che sia ancora poco conosciuta.

Questo podcast nasce proprio per raccontarla e per provare a semplificare uno sport che è molto complesso, ma altrettanto accessibile. Perché offre agli apPASSionati la possibilità di vederlo facilmente da vicino, conoscendo i suoi personaggi ed entrando nelle sue storie.

We built this studio, entirely dedicated to motorsport, to talk with you about international go-kart races and their protagonists. The focus will always be on the stories, full of PASSion.

It seems that karting is being mentioned more often in the racing world lately, especially thanks to young Formula 1 drivers who, in just a few years, move from the school of motorsport to its pinnacle. Some of them are already chosen by the teams of the premier class while they are still competing in karting. So while there seems to be growing interest in this discipline, at the same time we feel that it is still not widely known.

This podcast was created to narrate it and to try to simplify a sport that is very complex, but equally accessible. Because it offers enthusiasts the opportunity to easily see it up close, getting to know its characters and diving into its stories.

Probabilmente non basterebbe un film per raccontare la storia di Gian Carlo Minardi nel motorsport, ma sicuramente basta una breve chiacchierata per percepire la passione che lo lega a questa disciplina. Noi di The Pass l’abbiamo incontrato l’anno scorso all’Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari di Imola in occasione dell’ACI Racing Weekend, evento al quale Gian Carlo era presente in veste di Presidente di Formula Imola e Presidente della Commissione Velocità in Circuito ACI Sport. Nel corso della nostra Track Talk, Gian Carlo ha fatto emergere il coraggio che gli ha permesso di trasformare un grande sogno in realtà e successivamente di lasciarlo andare, ammettendo di non avere rimpianti.

Cresciuto nella concessionaria FIAT di famiglia, le macchine diventano presto una calamita per il faentino classe 1947, che si tuffa nelle corse appena ne ha l’occasione. Il suo percorso alle redini di una squadra parte nel 1972 con la Scuderia del Passatore, rinominata poi Scuderia Everest, dove getta le basi per fondare nel 1979 il Minardi Team. La carriera da costruttore è piena di insidie, ma la sua dedizione gli consente di superarle e nel 1985 debutta in Formula 1, fornendo una rampa di lancio per tanti giovani talenti e guadagnandosi la stima di leader quali Enzo Ferrari. Dai primi passi con un piccolo team ai 21 anni con la sua squadra nella classe regina dell’automobilismo, vissuti sempre con lo stesso approccio del buon padre di famiglia, tra pazzie, soddisfazioni e rischi di cui Gian Carlo ci ha parlato.

Attualmente impegnato in un’altra stagione da Presidente della Commissione Velocità in Circuito ACI Sport, Supervisore della Scuola Federale ACI Sport e Presidente dell’AC Ravenna, Gian Carlo insegna che non è mai troppo tardi per sfidare e migliorare sé stessi, anche perché ci sono sempre nuovi obiettivi da raggiungere e limiti che possono essere superati.

A film probably wouldn’t be enough to tell Gian Carlo Minardi’s story in motorsport, but a short chat is certainly enough to feel the passion that binds him to this discipline. We at The Pass met him last year at the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola on the occasion of the ACI Racing Weekend, an event that Gian Carlo attended as President of Formula Imola and President of the ACI Sport Circuit Speed Commission. Throughout our Track Talk, Gian Carlo brought to light the courage that allowed him to turn a great dream into reality and then let it go, admitting he has no regrets.

Growing up in his family’s FIAT dealership, cars soon become a magnet for the native of Faenza born in 1947, who dives into racing at the first opportunity. His journey at the helm of a team begins in 1972 with the Scuderia del Passatore, later renamed Scuderia Everest, where he lays the foundations to create the Minardi Team in 1979. His career as a constructor is full of pitfalls, but his dedication enables him to overcome them, and in 1985 he makes his Formula 1 debut, providing a launch pad for many young talents and earning the respect of leaders such as Enzo Ferrari. From the first steps with a small team to twenty-one years at the pinnacle of motorsport, always living with the same approach of a good family man, amidst crazy moments, achievements and risks that Gian Carlo told us about.

Currently busy in another season as President of the ACI Sport Circuit Speed Commission, Supervisor of the ACI Sport Federal School and President of AC Ravenna, Gian Carlo teaches that it’s never too late to challenge and improve yourself, as there are always new goals to pursue and limits that can be overcome.

Guido Schittone parla con l’autorevolezza di un professionista che ha narrato 50 anni di motorsport, ma allo stesso tempo con l’entusiasmo contagioso di un bambino che lo ha appena conosciuto. Noi di The Pass lo abbiamo incontrato l’anno scorso all’Autodromo Nazionale Monza in occasione dell’ACI Racing Weekend, evento al quale Guido era presente in veste di telecronista di ACI Sport e della Porsche Carrera Cup Italia. Nel corso della nostra Track Talk, Guido ha condiviso una serie di aneddoti e riflessioni sulla passione innata grazie alla quale vive un’eterna giovinezza, svelando ciò che forse non aveva mai detto prima d’ora pubblicamente.

Dopo aver assaporato l’ebrezza delle corse da spettatore già in tenera età, il parmense classe 1955 inizia a raccontarle nel 1975 e negli anni ricopre diversi ruoli nell’ambito della comunicazione, a stretto contatto con i personaggi leggendari del motorsport. Attualmente impegnato in un’altra stagione da telecronista di ACI Sport e della Porsche Carrera Cup Italia nonché nella scrittura del suo blog dedicato al cinema e alla narrativa, Guido dimostra quanto sia importante guardare sempre avanti con slancio e continuare a sognare, portando con sé gli insegnamenti del passato senza rimanerci ancorati.

Quando parla del suo sogno sfumato, Marco Antonelli sembra provare una malinconia che ha saputo accettare, ma che lascia ancora un po’ di amaro in bocca. Noi di The Pass lo abbiamo incontrato l’anno scorso all’Autodromo Nazionale Monza in occasione di un Test Kateyama, evento al quale Marco era presente in veste di team principal della sua squadra AKM Motorsport. Nel corso della nostra Track Talk, Marco ha precisato ciò che gli è mancato per diventare un pilota professionista e ciò che ha imparato a fare per lasciare comunque il segno nel motorsport, rivelando anche che non avrebbe voluto trasmettere questa passione a suo figlio.

Il bolognese classe 1964 entra nel mondo delle competizioni con un approccio genuino: debutta su un piccolo circuito vicino all'aeroporto della sua città natale, al volante di stock car “fatte in casa” e ricavate da auto destinate alla demolizione. Costretto a inventarsi un modo per finanziare la sua carriera, comincia anche a preparare le macchine di altri piloti in qualità di meccanico. È proprio grazie a questo duplice ruolo e ai suoi successi in pista che arriva fino al Campionato Italiano Superturismo, prima di essere chiamato da Alfa Romeo per provare il DTM. Quando vede svanire la possibilità di raggiungere il suo obiettivo a un passo dal professionismo, l’amore incondizionato per le corse lo convince a non mollare e a dedicare comunque tutta la sua vita al motorsport, cambiando semplicemente direzione: fonda il suo team nel 1993, costruendo la propria realtà artigianalmente e facendo i conti con i compromessi che Marco ci ha raccontato.

Attualmente impegnato in un’altra stagione da team principal di Antonelli Motorsport e AKM Motorsport mentre segue da vicino la carriera del figlio Kimi in Formula 1, Marco insegna che la passione va oltre la delusione e ti porta a fare di tutto pur di continuare a viverla, senza sentire il peso di sforzi e sacrifici.

Throughout our Track Talk, Marco specified what he lacked to become a professional driver and what he learned to do in order to still leave his mark on motorsport, also revealing that he wouldn’t have wanted to pass this passion on to his son.

The native of Bologna born in 1964 enters the racing world with a genuine approach: he makes his debut on a small circuit near the airport of his hometown, at the wheel of “homemade” stock cars derived from scrapped vehicles. Forced to find a way to fund his career, he also begins to prepare other drivers’ cars as a mechanic. It is precisely thanks to this dual role and his successes on track that he makes it to the Italian Superturismo Championship, before being called by Alfa Romeo for a DTM test. When he sees the possibility of reaching his goal fade away just one step away from professionalism, his unconditional love for racing convinces him not to give up and to dedicate his entire life to motorsport, simply changing direction: he founds his own team in 1993, building his project from the ground up and dealing with the compromises that Marco told us about.

Currently busy in another season as the team principal of Antonelli Motorsport and AKM Motorsport while closely following the career of his son Kimi in Formula 1, Marco teaches that passion goes beyond disappointment and drives you to do whatever it takes to keep living it, without feeling the weight of effort and sacrifice.

When James Wharton asks himself some crucial questions in a difficult moment of his professional and personal life, passion answers. We at The Pass met him last year at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza on the occasion of the ACI Racing Weekend, an event that James attended to compete in the tenth and final round of the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine with the Prema Racing team. Throughout our Track Talk, James reflected on the sacrifices he made in the name of his dream, underlining how important it is to take responsibility for your decisions, even at a young age.

The Australian born in 2006 isn’t meant to be driving on racetracks, but he falls in love with motorsport and moves from his home country to Europe when he is just a child in order to pursue a career. From karting to cars, from the first victories to the titles of Formula 4 UAE champion and Euro 4 vice champion: as the desire to win keeps him motivated and his confidence grows, living on the other side of the world and staying so far away from part of his family becomes second nature. This is how a kid who is too scared to race grows into a young man who chases the goal of reaching Formula 1, going back to basics when things don’t go as planned and facing the solitude as well as the setbacks that James told us about.

Currently racing in his debut season in FIA Formula 3 with the ART Grand Prix team after being crowned FRECA vice champion, James helps us to understand that there are multiple roads to success, which become less steep when travelled with people who support you along the way.

Nel corso della nostra Track Talk, James ha riflettuto sui sacrifici fatti in nome del suo sogno, sottolineando quanto sia importante assumersi la responsabilità delle proprie decisioni, anche da giovanissimi.

L’australiano classe 2006 non sembra destinato a guidare in pista, ma si innamora del motorsport e da bambino si trasferisce dal suo paese natale in Europa per intraprendere una carriera. Dal karting alle macchine da corsa, dalle prime vittorie ai titoli di campione della Formula 4 UAE e vicecampione della Euro 4: mentre il desiderio di vincere lo mantiene motivato e la fiducia in sé stesso cresce, vivere dall’altra parte del mondo e stare così lontano da una parte della sua famiglia diventa naturale. È così che un bambino che ha paura di gareggiare si trasforma in un giovane uomo che insegue l’obiettivo di raggiungere la Formula 1, tornando alle fondamenta quando le cose non vanno secondo i piani e affrontando la solitudine così come le battute d’arresto di cui James ci ha parlato.

Attualmente impegnato nella sua stagione d’esordio in FIA Formula 3 con il team ART Grand Prix dopo essersi laureato vicecampione del FRECA, James aiuta a capire che esistono molteplici strade verso il successo, che diventano meno ripide se percorse con persone pronte a sostenerti lungo il cammino.

Natalia Balbo arriva a un punto della sua carriera kartistica in cui dice a sé stessa: “O ci provo, o smetto”. Noi di The Pass l’abbiamo incontrata l’anno scorso al Franciacorta Karting Track in occasione del Round 1 della WSK Euro Series, evento al quale Natalia era presente in veste di team manager del CRG Racing Team, e siamo stati ospitati da WSK Promotion nella WSK Business Lounge. Nel corso della nostra Track Talk, Natalia ha parlato senza peli sulla lingua di un mondo dal quale talvolta ha voluto allontanarsi, ma nel quale alla fine è sempre rimasta, scegliendo di non dare voce a pregiudizi e stereotipi.

Nonostante cresca in una famiglia senza esperienze pregresse nel motorsport, la trevigiana classe 1996 si incuriosisce già da bambina quando vede alcuni go-kart in azione su una pista indoor e insiste per provarne uno. La paura prima di salire si trasforma in un grande sorriso appena scende dopo aver completato i primi giri ed è così che parte un viaggio tanto intenso quanto inaspettato. Natalia Balbo reaches a point in her karting career where she says to herself: “Either I try, or I quit”. We at The Pass met her last year at the Franciacorta Karting Track on the occasion of Round 1 of the WSK Euro Series, an event that Natalia attended as CRG Racing Team’s team manager, and we were hosted by WSK Promotion in the WSK Business Lounge. Throughout our Track Talk, Natalia spoke candidly about a world she sometimes wanted to distance herself from, but where she has ultimately always stayed, choosing not to give voice to prejudice and stereotypes.

Despite growing up in a family with no previous experience in motorsport, the native of Vicenza born in 1996 already becomes curious as a child when she sees some go-karts in action on an indoor track and insists on trying one. The fear before driving turns into a big smile as soon as she completes the first few laps and this is how a journey that is as intense as it is unexpected begins. From the successes in a single-brand championship to the international adventures in the premier class, from the races as a mechanic to the proposal to take the reins of the team of one of the most historic and prestigious karting manufacturers: a path made of consistency and at the same time of changes, always finding the strength to react to the difficulties and frustration that Natalia told us about.

Currently busy in another season as the team manager of CRG’s racing department, Natalia demonstrates that you can overcome even the toughest stops, taking your time to get back to feeling well and enjoying your passion.
