  • Ep.35 - Controlled Articular Rotations: Why Slower is Better
    Oct 31 2026

This episode is about CARs, controlled articular rotations, and it's a conversation between Pieter Schönfeldt of Peak Mobility and FRC mobility coach, Akil Bilal. Most people still call them joint circles. The question the episode keeps coming back to is whether CARs are just daily maintenance or a badly underrated tool, and the answer is plain: they're underrated, because a CAR isn't a circle, it's a slow, controlled way of showing your brain what a joint can actually do.

Pieter and Akil cover why CARs are done slowly and never fast, why the joint needs movement to feed itself, how a CAR doubles as a quick assessment that shows range without control, and how to fit them into a day: at the desk, making coffee, in the car, between sets of squats or deadlifts. Then they go further than most people do with Kinstretch and FRC: irradiation, level 2 with the other joints blocked out, level 3 with load, half and quarter CARs, and Akil's habit of doing them in a swimming pool.

It ends on the days you can't train: after a knee surgery, through a low patch, or when you just don't feel like it. If you do nothing else, do your CARs.

    In this episode

    • Why CARs are done slowly, explained with the Google Maps car: the slower it drives, the better the map.

    • CARs as an assessment: people with lots of range on the table test can have no control of it, and a CAR shows that straight away.

    • How to make CARs a daily non-negotiable, like brushing your teeth, and how to do almost all of them sitting at a desk.

    • The levels: irradiation to send one clean signal from one joint, level 2 with the other joints blocked out, level 3 with load, plus half and quarter CARs for one sticky zone.

    • Finishing a session with CARs to keep what you just gained, and using them to keep the rest of the body going while an injured knee heals.

  • Ep.34 - The difference between "Warm-Up" and "Joint Preparation" with Akil Bilal
    Sep 21 2026

You broke a sweat, your heart rate is up, and you feel ready to train. Your joints may completely disagree.

This episode is about a distinction most warm-ups miss entirely: warming the body is not the same as preparing the joint. A general warm-up raises tissue temperature, but it does not guarantee that your shoulders, hips, spine, or knees can access and control the ranges your sport is about to demand.

We separate three things that usually get lumped together: tissue temperature, nervous system readiness, and joint-specific access. We talk through why a BJJ athlete can feel warm and still expose an unprepared neck, hips, or shoulders in a scramble, and why a CrossFitter can be soaked after the assault bike and still lack the specific control a snatch or a heavy overhead squat requires.

From there it gets practical. Using CARs as a daily diagnostic to see what a joint actually offers before you load it. Why end-range isometrics prepare tissue for sport more effectively than passive stretching. And how to decide, on any given day, whether a joint needs activation, expansion, control, or down-regulation.

We finish on a long-running debate: should mobility work happen before training, after training, or as its own session? The honest answer is that all three work, but the intent changes. Before is to prepare and access. After is to restore and down-regulate. A separate session is to build capacity.

  • Ep.33 - Why Mobility is still misunderstood with Akil Bilal
    Jul 24 2026

Everyone trains mobility. Almost nobody agrees on what it actually is.

Ask 10 coaches to define mobility training and you will get 10 different answers. Ask why your hips still feel tight after 3 years of consistent stretching and the room goes quiet. That gap is the whole problem, and it is why so many people put in the work and get nothing back.

In this episode we unpack why mobility remains one of the most misunderstood concepts in training. We cover the difference between the range you can passively demonstrate and the range you can actively control, why tightness is better understood as a nervous system output than a tissue length problem, and what actually has to happen for a joint to adapt.

We also get into why so much standard advice produces short term sensation and no long term change, and what a genuinely different approach looks like in practice. If you have stretched daily for months and landed exactly where you started, this episode explains what was missing.

  • Ep.32 - Joints Under Pressure: The Future of Strength-Based Mobility
    Jun 26 2026

In this first episode of the Peak Podcast, Pieter Schönfeldt introduces a new conversation series with fellow FRC and Kinstretch specialist, BJJ black belt, coach, and movement practitioner, Akil Bilal.

This opening episode is a casual introduction to who we are, how we each found strength-based mobility, and why we believe joint preparation, active range of motion, and movement control matter so much for athletes.

Pieter brings the CrossFit and functional fitness perspective, while Akil brings the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and grappling perspective. Together, they explore the shared principles between two very different training worlds and tease what’s coming in future episodes: mobility training, joint health, injury prevention, performance, longevity, end-range strength, and what it really means to prepare the body for the demands of sport.

From the CrossFit box to the BJJ mats, this series is about building bodies that can move well, handle pressure, and keep training for the long run.

  • Ep.31 - Kinstretch Explained - The missing link in your Strength Training
    Sep 4 2025

If you’ve ever felt stiff, stuck, or like your joints are holding you back, this episode is your wake-up call. I'm diving deep into Kinstretch, a powerful, science-backed movement enhancement system that goes way beyond stretching.

You’ll learn why this method is all about building strength at the end ranges of motion, training your joints and connective tissues to actually handle the demands of your life, your workouts, and your sport. I break down how Kinstretch helps improve mobility, joint control, and injury resilience, and why it targets the “white tissues” - ligaments, tendons, and joint capsules, that most traditional strength programs ignore.

You’ll discover how the nervous system governs your access to movement, the role of CARs as daily joint maintenance and assessment tools, and how breathing and neural control play into lasting flexibility.

Whether you’re a CrossFit athlete, coach, active parent, or simply tired of feeling restricted in your body, this episode will change the way you view mobility.

Tune in and learn why strong muscles aren’t enough, and how true internal strength starts from the joints out. Follow the show and connect with us on Instagram @peakmobilitydxb to see how this method looks in real life and where you can drop in for a session.

  • Ep.30 - Unilateral Strength: The missing link in Mobility, Injury Prevention & Performance
    Aug 7 2025

Most people train bilaterally - think squats, deadlifts, presses - but life doesn’t move that way...

In this episode of Peak Potential Unleashed, I explore why unilateral training, especially with contralateral loading, is critical for fixing imbalances, boosting joint control, and building real-world strength. You'll learn how asymmetries impact performance, how to train end-range mobility with load, and how plyometrics strengthen tendons and ligaments to reduce injury risk. Backed by principles from FRC, Kinstretch, and the Internal Strength Model, this episode connects mobility, stability, and resilience into one complete approach for better movement.

Whether you're into CrossFit, functional training, or just want to move pain-free - this episode will change how you train.

  • Ep.29 - Anchored in Bias: How mental shortcuts sabotage your Fitness progress
    Jul 31 2025

Ever feel like you’re stuck in your fitness journey, despite showing up, eating “clean,” and doing the work? You might be anchored. Not by your strength or your schedule, but by a powerful mental shortcut known as the anchoring effect.

In this episode, I unpack one of the most underestimated cognitive biases in health and fitness. Anchoring is the brain’s habit of clinging to the first piece of information it gets - whether it’s a calorie label, a suggested rep range, or your last 1RM, and using that as a baseline for all future decisions. And once it’s set, it shapes your training intensity, portion sizes, expectations of progress, and even how much effort you think you’re putting in.

We’ll explore how this bias shows up in:

    • CrossFit and strength training (Rx weights, AMRAPs, scaling decisions)
    • Endurance and perceived exertion
    • Calorie counting, fasting, and food labels
    • Mobility goals and flexibility benchmarks
    • Fitness apps, daily routines, and goal setting

You’ll hear how anchors subtly shape behavior and how to reframe or override bad ones, especially if you're underestimating your potential. Drawing from research by Tversky & Kahneman and real-world applications in fitness and coaching, this episode will challenge the way you think about progress.

Whether you’re a coach, athlete, or just getting started, you’ll walk away with a sharper mindset, and smarter strategies to break plateaus.

  • Ep.28 - It starts with your Joints: Why Mobility matters more than you think
    Jul 24 2025

Most people think pain starts where it hurts - but what if the real cause is somewhere else entirely? In this episode, I break down why understanding your joints is key to understanding your pain. From tight hips causing back pain to a stiff big toe messing with your squat, we uncover the hidden links that could be sabotaging your performance and daily movement.

I dive deep into the science of joint mobility, the role of the nervous system, and why stretching alone won’t fix your issues. You’ll learn why cartilage needs movement to stay healthy, how joint dysfunction accelerates aging, and what happens when you ignore the small stuff...like your feet. Backed by FRC principles, expert insights from Dr. Andreo Spina and Dr. Peter Attia, and packed with real-world examples, this episode is a must-listen for anyone serious about moving pain-free, for life.

Whether you're an athlete, coach, or just someone who wants to move and feel better, you’ll leave this episode with practical insight, mindset shifts, and a new appreciation for what mobility training really means.

If this resonated with you, share it with someone who needs to hear it.
