For the one-year anniversary of The Naked Room, I’ve stopped listening to THIS type of advice.

Actually, I stopped a while ago. And instead, I’m in the chapter where I lead with my heart AND my curiosity.

Corporate culture is still deeply rooted in my psyche, so it’s felt like a major act of rebellion for me to write my own rules and to simply stop listening to folks who dole out advice that is loud, but doesn’t align for me.

And I know that it’s because I’ve started taking my own advice that things are going to expand in my life.

Ashley and I met a handful of years back while I was still managing the photography team at Red Bull. She had shared her personal story with me just recently, and I’m grateful that she chose to share it here because I know that she’s going to inspire anyone else who listens in.

Ashley shares her poignant story of transitioning from nursing to photography. After being diagnosed with lupus and experiencing the profound loss of her son (after losing her sister five years prior), she took a step back from her hospice nursing career. This life-altering experience led her to embrace photography not just as a profession, but as a means of expressing her inner world.

“I had a second chance at life... I want to do something with my life, something that I want to do.”

We get into what it’s like for her when she’s deeply in flow — when the room goes silent — and her intuition and something outside of herself just takes over. That’s when she creates something otherworldly kind of beautiful …
