  • MT Wollongong - Slow Lane Social Collective: The Power of Slowing Down
    Jul 15 2026

This week on the Movement Therapy Podcast, Ethan sits down with Dan, personal trainer and founder of the Slow Lane Social Collective, alongside Phoebee, the newest member of the Movement Therapy admin team. Together, they explore the idea that sometimes the best way to move forward is to slow down.

Dan shares how the Slow Lane Social Collective began as a simple weekly gathering for a swim in the local continental pool and has grown into a community built around connection, presence, and appreciating the world—and each other. He discusses the vision behind the collective, why genuine community matters, and how it aligns so closely with Movement Therapy's mission of moving communities towards health optimisation.

Phoebee reflects on how she found the Slow Lane Social Collective, what drew her to it, and the positive impact it has had on her mental health and personal wellbeing.

Together, the conversation explores the value of slowing down in a fast-paced world, the power of meaningful relationships, and why creating space to connect with others may be one of the most important things we can do for our health.

  • MT Wollongong - Jordan goes from Student to The Enhanced Games
    Jun 3 2026

In this episode, Ethan sits down with Jordan, Movement Therapy’s newest Exercise Physiologist, to discuss his journey from student to clinician. Jordan reflects on his time as a student across the Wollongong and Picton clinics, what he expected life as a healthcare professional would be like, and the realities he encountered once he started practicing independently.

The conversation explores the challenges of the transition from university to the workforce, including confidence, responsibility, self-doubt, and the pressures that can quietly build during those first few months as a new graduate. Jordan shares an honest account of his experience, offering valuable insights for students, new graduates, and clinicians at any stage of their career.

In the second half of the episode, Ethan and Jordan turn their attention to the recently completed Enhanced Games in Las Vegas. They discuss the goals of the event, whether it can be considered a success, and some of the broader implications for sport, athlete health, and the future of performance enhancement.

This is an open and candid conversation about the realities of starting a career in healthcare, the challenges of professional growth, and one of the most controversial developments in modern sport.

  • MT Wollongong - Kate's Story of a Small Injury That Changed Everything
    May 4 2026

This week on the Movement Therapy Podcast, Ethan sits down with Sam and long-term client Kate to unpack a journey that started with what seemed like a minor wrist injury — but quickly became something far more significant. What began as an innocuous issue spiraled into a barrier that impacted Kate’s career progression, daily function, and overall sense of direction, highlighting just how disruptive an injury can become when early management misses the mark.

Kate shares her experience navigating inconsistent advice and uncertainty across different healthcare pathways, and the mental resilience required to keep pushing forward when answers weren’t clear. Together, they explore the turning point in her rehab — when structured, individualised care shifted the trajectory away from options like splinting, cortisone injections, and even surgery, toward a more sustainable recovery.

Now working as a rescue special operations paramedic, Kate reflects on what it truly takes to return to such a physically and mentally demanding role. This episode dives into the intersection of injury, identity, and performance, and what it means to rebuild not just physically, but professionally, when everything feels like it’s been put on hold.

  • Edwin Smith Part 2: From Broadcast TV and tennis to Social Media Business and Ultra Marathons
    Mar 7 2026

In Part 2, the conversation shifts into Edwin’s evolving relationship with sport — and how a series of injuries gradually moved him away from tennis and toward running.

What began as rehabilitation and cross-training eventually turned into a completely new challenge. Edwin now finds himself deep in the world of trail running and ultra marathons, pushing his body further than he ever expected while managing the realities of chronic injury.

We explore the balance between resilience and risk, how far to push rehab when injuries never fully disappear, and what it takes mentally to pursue endurance sport at the extremes.

Alongside this journey, Edwin reflects on the last six years of running his own business — navigating uncertainty, building a brand, and creating a life that supports both his work and his pursuit of adventure.

  • Edwin Smith Part 1: From Broadcast TV and tennis to Social Media Business and Ultra Marathons
    Mar 6 2026

In Part 1 of this week's episode, Ethan sits down with Edwin Smith — a local tennis player turned social media business owner — to unpack the path that took him from Sydney’s media world to building his own business during the chaos of COVID.

Starting his career in television, including time working with Channel 10, Edwin shares how an interest in storytelling and content creation gradually evolved into running his own social media business. What began as a side project during the uncertainty of the pandemic eventually became a full-time pursuit.

Along the way, we dive into Edwin’s injury history as a competitive tennis player, how physical setbacks shaped his relationship with sport, and how those experiences influenced the way he approached both his training and his career decisions.

This episode explores the intersection of sport, injury, and entrepreneurship — and how taking a risk during uncertain times can lead to an entirely new path.

  • Winter Olympics Special Episode: The Lindsey Vonn Fallout
    Feb 22 2026

In this Movement Therapy Podcast special, we take a deep dive into one of the most talked-about moments of the Winter Olympics — the devastating injury of Lindsey Vonn.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest downhill skiers of all time, Vonn ruptured her ACL just nine days before what was set to be her final Olympic campaign. She made the decision to continue competing.

Thirteen seconds into her run, she crashed.

The result? A catastrophic tibial fracture, several emergency surgeries, and recovery in hospital with an external fixation frame.

But this episode isn’t about headlines. It’s about context.

Ethan, Nick, and Alex unpack the event from two very different angles:

    • Alex — a lifelong skier — breaks down the technical demands of downhill racing, what the margins for error really look like, and how an ACL-deficient knee might alter performance at 120 km/h.

    • Nick and Ethan approach it from a clinical lens — exploring the biomechanics of ACL rupture, compensatory loading patterns, neuromuscular control, and whether altered mechanics may have contributed to the crash.

    • Together, we discuss the broader implications:

      • Was it the right call to compete?

      • What advice might have been given behind closed doors?

      • Where does athlete autonomy sit against medical risk?

      • And would the narrative have been different if this were a male athlete?

It’s a measured, evidence-based conversation about high performance, identity, risk, and responsibility in elite sport.

If you’re an athlete, clinician, coach — or simply someone fascinated by the razor-thin line between courage and consequence — this is one you don’t want to miss.

  • Rhys de Burgh Part 2: Health, Income and Longevity in the Music Industry
    Feb 5 2026

In Part 2, the conversation moves into what came next — when momentum turned into responsibility.

As SoSo’s debut album: "So Much for Second Chances" topped the ARIA charts on its release, Rhys breaks down how the band transitioned from passion project to a genuine source of income. We explore what actually sits behind that shift: the financial realities of making music sustainable, the pressure that comes with success, and the systems required to keep things moving forward.

This episode also dives deeply into Rhys’ health journey. Touring, performing, late nights, travel, and inconsistent routines all place a real load on the body and mind. Rhys shares how he learned to manage energy, recovery, and workload, and how his approach to health had to evolve as music became his primary focus.

Rather than burning bright and burning out, this conversation is about building longevity — supporting creativity with structure, protecting health while chasing opportunity, and designing a lifestyle that allows success to continue without breaking down along the way.

This series, we meet Rhys, front man of the band SoSo and a long term client of Ethan's. This demanded discipline and a lot of self-negotiation with priorities and sacrifice.

We unpack how this shift happened, the internal conflict of balancing two demanding paths, and the moment Rhys realised he couldn’t give everything equal weight anymore. We also discuss Rhys' relationship with the gym, his body image and motivations for staying healthy during an intense time of his life.
