That low carbon method is nuclear power, and while it has had a chequered history, it simply doesn’t deserve the bad reputation it’s developed over the years.

Vaccines have saved millions of lives. Through there continued use humanity has rid itself of some truly horrifying diseases and is well on its way to banishing more.

But for as long as there have been vaccines, there have been those who were sceptical, and that sentiment has never really subsided.

In today’s episode we delve into the dual histories of vaccines and their detractors, separating fact from fiction, and considering how we can move through the impasse of the current vaccine critical discussion.

You tend to assume that when a new building goes up, the architects, and the construction teams have ensured that it’s safe.

You hope they’ve made sure it won’t topple over, collapse, shake, or pose a fire risk…. Yet that’s not always the case.

Sometimes that’s down to cost cutting measures, other times it’s incompetence, and occasionally it’s plain old human error.

We left the story with the Hughes Glomar Explorer leaving its west coast staging grounds in search of the wreckage of a Soviet ballistic missile submarine. Its goal was to recover the sub from below three miles of ocean and return it to the surface to learn about the nuclear weapons she carried, and the navy that she belonged to.

Coffee’s meteoric rise in popularity was not always assured. From its African origins, spread through the Arabic world, and proliferation through Europe and beyond, it has faced controversy and condemnation at every step.
