  • Mother Mary Goes All-in On Dreamlike Archetypes – E177
    Apr 27 2026

Madison is here with a review of one of the most intriguing releases of the year thus far, David Lowery’s newest film, Mother Mary.

Distributed by A24, Mother Mary is the first of two Anne Hathaway vehicles in a month, with The Devil Wears Prada 2 releasing on May 1st. That said, the two films share little more than Miss Hathaway and fashion. Yet Lowery’s haunting film blurs the lines between memory and reality, performance and perception, in an eerie and artful manner.

As Madison tried to convey, Mother Mary, “is not a love story,” and it’s “...not a ghost story,” rather it’s “a very mythic, archetypal kind of movie where it’s very dreamlike.” For many, those blurred lines and split storytelling styles will cause a bit of confusion. For others, like Madison, it was the dreamy, artistic, interpretive qualities that drew him in.

We hope you enjoy today’s episode, and be sure to go see Mother Mary in a theater near you.

Get your tickets to see Mother Mary:

    - See it at AMC

    - See it at Cinemark

    - See it at Regal

    - Find tickets on Fandango
