Give Him the First, Not the Leftover: A Time for Every Purpose (Episode 11)

    • Series Umbrella: A Time for Every Purpose — Leg 2: Bringing in the Harvest
    • Scripture: Proverbs 3:9-10 (NKJV)
    • Ancient Word: Reshit (רֵאשִׁית) — Hebrew, "firstfruits/first/beginning" — the same root word that opens Genesis 1:1

Desiree Day continues A Time for Every Purpose with Proverbs 3:9-10 — "Honor the Lord with your possessions, and with the firstfruits of all your increase." She breaks open the Hebrew word Reshit — first, firstfruits, beginning — and points out it's the very same word that opens the whole Bible: Genesis 1:1, "in the beginning," bereshit.

She gets honest about a declaration she made to God two weeks ago — that He'd get her first words every morning — and admits she hasn't followed through on it consistently, hasn't been praying before each work task either, and names the lie she's been operating on: "I don't have time to go to Him first," even though she knows from experience that when she does, she somehow ends up with exactly enough time for everything God wants done.

This episode includes a new Holy Shift Action, "The Reshit Offering," and a prayer for anyone who's made a promise to give God their first and hasn't kept it yet.

    • Let Him Cut It Back: A Time for Every Purpose (Episode 10)
    • What Pruning Really Means (John 15:2):
    • The Greek Word Behind Kathairō | Holy Shift Devotionals
    • Series Umbrella: A Time for Every Purpose — Leg 2: Bringing in the Harvest
    • Scripture: John 15:2 (NKJV)
    • Ancient Word: Kathairō (καθαίρω) — Greek, "to prune/cleanse/purge"

Desiree Day continues A Time for Every Purpose with the verse right after abiding — John 15:2, "every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit." She breaks open the Greek word Kathairō — to prune, to cleanse, to cut away what's excessive — and why pruning is proof something's already working, not a sign something's wrong.

This one gets unusually honest: Dez admits she doesn't have her own answer yet. She knows God's pruning something in her right now, but she can't hear clearly enough over her own thoughts to know what. She sits in that unfinished place with you instead of pretending she's past it.

This episode includes a new Holy Shift Action, "The Kathairō Listen," and a prayer for anyone who's still in the searching, not the resolution.

    • Abide in Me (John 15:4-5): Why Striving Isn't the Same as Bearing Fruit | Holy Shift Devotionals
    • Series Umbrella: A Time for Every Purpose — Leg 2: Bringing in the Harvest
    • Scripture: John 15:4-5 (NKJV)
    • Ancient Word: Meno (μένω) — Greek, "abide/remain/stay joined"

Desiree Day opens a new leg of A Time for Every Purpose by bringing back something the show paused for a few episodes — the ancient word. Anchored in John 15:4-5, "Abide in Me, and I in you... for without Me you can do nothing," she breaks open the Greek word Meno — to stay, to remain joined — and why fruit was never actually about effort.

She gets honest about a hard week: an amazing but unsystemized workload leaving her scattered, carrying her friends' and colleagues' pain as her own, a freeze that made it hard to get anything done, and a breakthrough prayer yesterday that cleared some of it — plus the follow-up she knows she's still avoiding.

This episode includes a new Holy Shift Action, "The Meno Check," and a prayer for anyone trying to produce fruit from a place they haven't actually stayed connected.
