  • Why Real Friends Don’t Try to Fix You
    Oct 26 2026

When someone you love is hurting, the instinct is to fix it. What if the kindest thing you can do is stay in the room and not say a word?

In this episode, Noel and Jake open with a poem by the 13th-century mystic Hadewijch and the Beguines, the independent medieval women who built their own communities outside the church. From there they explore what real friendship asks of us: witnessing instead of fixing, befriending the stranger inside yourself, and holding both comfort and challenge for the people you love.

  • Why Hospitality Is the Most Underrated Spiritual Practice
    Oct 19 2026

Episode 19. Why Hospitality Is the Most Underrated Spiritual Practice

What if the reason you feel like an outsider has nothing to do with the people around you, and everything to do with how you treat the guest living inside you?

In this episode, Noel and Jake explore hospitality as one of the most concrete spiritual practices there is. It isn’t about dinner parties or manners. It’s about stillness, welcoming your own shadow, and learning to receive love before you try to give it.

  • Why You Can’t Have Joy Without Sorrow
    Oct 12 2026

Episode 18. Joy and Sorrow.Joy and sorrow feel like opposites. This episode asks whether they’re actually the same thing, felt from two sides.Noel and Jake start with a line from Khalil Gibran’s The Prophet that joy and sorrow are inseparable, and follow it through stories, grief and everyday life. They talk about why sorrow is what makes a story worth telling, why we move from reassuring children’s tales to rawer ones as we grow up, and why the best journeys, like The Odyssey, need a trial before the return can feel like joy. From there, they ask what joy actually is and how it differs from happiness. Happiness is contained and passes quickly. Joy erupts, is less self-concerned, and can be felt again through memory. They get into why joy multiplies when it’s shared, why watching other people’s joy can be a gift rather than a source of envy, and Golda Meir’s line: “If you do not know how to weep from your heart, you don’t know how to laugh from your belly.” They also look at whether the anger in so much public debate is really undigested sorrow.Noel shares a personal story about a friend who died young. Looking back, he finds the grief and the joy of that friendship live side by side. The episode closes on why sharing our failures and sorrows, not just our successes, is what builds belonging.Watch the full episode now.FOLLOW AND SUPPORT THE SHOW
