Todd Fowler went full-time in his handyman business just about a year ago — and he’s already making a serious impact in his community.

In Episode #9 of the Handyman Roadshow, we sit down with Todd in Portland, Oregon to talk about what that first year of full-time self-employment has really looked like: building a reputation, serving his community, growing the business, and expanding beyond traditional handyman work.

Todd has also added pest control services alongside his handyman services, creating a unique business model that gives customers another reason to keep calling HomeHeroes.

And business isn’t Todd’s whole life. When he’s not working, you might find him playing music with one of several cover bands around Portland. 🎸

We talk about the transition to full-time, what Todd has learned during his first year, why he expanded into pest control, building trust in your local community, and creating a business that fits the life you actually want to live.

Real life. Real stories. Real handymen.

What does the handyman business look like for Gen Z?

In Episode #8 of the Handyman Roadshow, I sit down with Kowen Gayhart, a Gen Z handyman who is building his own path in the trades.

We talk about what led Kowen into handyman work, what it’s like building a business as part of a younger generation, and why the trades can offer an incredible opportunity for young people who are willing to learn, work hard, and take ownership of their future.

We also get into the realities of being a young handyman, building confidence, learning the business side of the trades, dealing with customers, and creating a career that can ultimately provide more freedom than the traditional 9-to-5 path.

If you're a young handyman, thinking about starting a handyman business, considering a career in the trades, or wondering whether the handyman industry has a future with the next generation, this conversation is for you.
