Do you have everything you're supposed to want, but still feel like something is missing? You're not broken. You've just been looking in the wrong place.

I'm Russell Davis, therapist and executive coach. In Clarity Within, I help ambitious people reconnect with their innate confidence, find genuine clarity and purpose, and build a life that feels as good on the inside as it looks on the outside.

I know this territory firsthand. After years of striving, and an eight-year fertility journey that brought me to a breaking point, I discovered that clarity and confidence aren't things you earn. They already live within you.

Each episode explores honest conversations and real insights that create lasting change. Not tools or techniques. Just a deeper understanding of who you are and what you're truly capable of.

The search is over. It starts within.

  • Why Leaving Your Comfort Zone Feels Wrong
    Sep 29 2026

If you're chasing a goal, a relationship, or a version of your life, and the distance between where you are and where you want to be feels uncomfortable, you've probably tried to make that feeling go away. This episode makes the case that the discomfort isn't a warning sign. It's the actual mechanism that creates change.

    In this episode:

    • Why the gap between where you are and where you want to be is meant to feel uncomfortable, and why closing it too quickly can stop the growth you're trying to create
    • The four ways people typically try to escape that discomfort: giving up on the vision, refusing to accept where they actually are, building an over-detailed plan, or trying to "fix themselves" before they're allowed to move forward
    • Why a tree growing toward the light never grows in a straight line, and what that says about how real progress actually happens
    • A specific moment in Russell's own marriage where staying in an uncomfortable moment, instead of shutting down, changed the outcome completely
    • Why you don't need a detailed plan to move forward, just the next honest choice in front of you

  • How to Stop Fearing the Unknown
    Oct 6 2026

Fear of the unknown can make you want a guarantee before you take a single step. You try to be sure the plan will work, sure you won't fail, sure you'll be okay. But being sure doesn't exist, and chasing it keeps you anxious and stuck. In this episode, Russell shares how needing certainty became a habit, and what changes when you let go of it.

    • After a ten-year fertility journey, a positive pregnancy test didn't feel real until the heartbeat scan. Needing to be sure is a very human response.
    • The need for certainty is often a thinking habit learned in childhood, from trying to work out the rules to stay out of trouble.
    • Being sure has never been possible. Humans were once sure the Earth was flat and the sun went round it.
    • A plan is a best guess. It's useful, but if your wellbeing depends on it going exactly right, you'll end up disappointed or worried.
    • The tension between where you are and where you want to be is part of creating, not a sign that something's wrong.

The reframe: feeling safe doesn't come from knowing what happens next. It comes from trusting you'll be okay whatever happens. Then you only need the next step.

If you can't act until you're certain, this one's for you.

  • Why You Feel Trapped in Life
    Sep 22 2026

You've probably settled, at some point, into a fixed idea of who you are: the capable one, the calm one, the one who holds it together. This episode uses a true story to make the case that identity like that isn't fact, it's just thinking, and holding it tightly can trap you rather than protect you.

    In this episode:

    • The true story of a 1949 wildfire and the firefighters who died still holding onto the tools that had come to represent who they were
    • Why the one man who survived did the opposite of what he'd been trained to do, and improvised instead of following the playbook
    • The psychological research into why people cling to the tools, titles and roles that represent their competence, even when survival depends on letting go
    • The difference between the fixed sense of "I am" and everything that follows it, which is just a thought passing through, not a fact about you
    • What becomes possible, a real sense of freedom and possibility, once you stop defending a fixed version of yourself
