Elyse Metzger has been a professional organizer in San Diego for over six years – but long before that, she was "the organized one" in every job, friend group, and family gathering. After years of organizing homes (while her own life felt chaotic), she's learned that getting "organized" isn't about perfection. It's about mindset.

Now she's sharing what she's learned (and still learning) about creating systems that actually fit your life. Each episode blends mindset shifts with practical advice to help you feel more put together and in control – tackling the real struggles like overwhelm, unrealistic expectations, and the pressure to "have it all together."

This isn't your typical organizing podcast with "5 tips for your closet." It's an honest conversation about managing life's chaos, one mindset shift at a time.

  • Organize for the Person You’re Becoming | Ep 15

In this final episode of Tame the Chaos, I ask a question many women rarely stop to consider: are you actually living the life you have, or your old one?

Sharing a little bit of my identity reassessment from the past year and a half, I realized my home was still holding onto my old self instead of reflecting who I've actually become.

My three golden rules for organizing a home (and a life) that actually fits who you're becoming:

→ Organizing is not one size fits all.
→ If it's working, let it be.
→ Letting go is about identity, not just stuff.

Reflection: Walk through your home and notice if there's a room or area that still feels like your old self. If you want to take it further, pick one shelf, drawer, or closet and ask yourself if it still reflects the life you're actually living.

This episode is also a pivot. I'm stepping away from the podcast to focus on a full room by room reset of my own home, and I'll be sharing the whole thing ✨

  • What I Gave Up to Feel Like Myself Again | Ep 14
    Jul 7 2026

I thought I was doing everything right. But a closer look made me realize I was running on empty.

In this episode, I get personal about the five things I gave up this year to feel lighter, both physically and mentally. From overconsumption and social media to obligations without joy, burning out, and perfectionism, I trace it all back to one thing: an overachieving, Type A personality that was quietly costing me.

This isn't a tips episode. It's an honest look at what it actually feels like to start living more intentionally and what you might need to let go of to feel like yourself again.

    In this episode:

    • Overconsumption and what it's actually costing you beyond your wallet
    • Why I deactivated my personal social media accounts
    • The difference between doing things with joy vs. doing them on autopilot
    • Running on fumes as a high-functioning overachiever
    • Perfectionism as a Type A professional organizer and why I'm letting it go

This week's reflection: What is one thing in your life that is draining you? How can you change it, remove it, or replace it with something that actually gives you energy? 🤔

  • Does Your Husband See the Mess? (I Asked Mine) | Ep 13
    Jun 23 2026

    Send us Fan Mail

Do you ever feel like you're the only one in the house who cares about picking up messes? You won't want to miss this conversation.

In this episode, Elyse sits down with her husband Tim to ask him exactly what he sees (and doesn't see) around their home. What starts as curiosity about mess turns into a real conversation about the mental load, why two people living in the same space can experience it so differently — and what actually helps.

If you've ever wondered what your partner is thinking about the mess, or felt frustrated that they don't notice what stresses you out, this may give you some real relief.

    What you'll hear:

    • The real difference between "not noticing" and "noticing differently"
    • Why systems matter more than you think
    • How the mental load shows up in relationships
    • What actually makes it easier for both of you
