  • The Most Useful —Linum Usitatissimum
    Sep 10 2026

Stand at the edge of the Dart estuary at dawn, where a small blue flower opens with the tide and falls by afternoon. This episode follows flax — Linum usitatissimum, “the most useful” — from ten thousand years of swaddling cloths, sails and burial shrouds, through seven mentions in Shakespeare, to the Bayeux Tapestry’s wool-on-linen thread and the moth that shares its oldest alphabet with the fields of Palestine.

Orientation, botany, science, stillness — as always. Full transcript and companion essay at snoseas.substack.com.

The third episode of Snoseas follows Salvia rosmarinus — rosemary — through Totnes history, Benedictine medicine, Ophelia’s bouquet, the neuroscience of the 1,8-cineole compound and the maternal memory carried in every human cell. Recorded in Totnes, Devon, July 2026.

  • A Woven Tale - Viola Oderata
    Jun 30 2026

The violet has finished its performance in Devon. It was here in February — small, purple, modest, brief as it always was. In this episode Snoseas follows Viola odorata through the Roman festival of the dead, Ovid’s unfinished almanac, Ophelia’s withered grief, the outrage of the Impressionists and the extraordinary science of a flower that temporarily steals your ability to smell it — before revealing, in ultraviolet, a hidden blazing the human eye is still learning to see.

Put the last touches to my undertaking. — Ovid, Fasti, final entry, 30 June.

  • The Evolutionary Wizard — Aquilegia (Columbine)
    Jun 10 2026

Snoseas is a creative practice rooted in the Devon landscape, exploring the natural world through Shakespeare’s flowers, natural history and the slow process of making — moving toward a moment of stillness. The first episode follows the aquilegia — six point nine million years old, toxic, beautiful and perpetually adapting — from its evolutionary intelligence to Norse mythology, from Ophelia’s grief to the shifting seasons it has already begun to answer.
