The San Francisco Overland Podcast is where adventure meets real stories from the trail. Hosted by Steven & Susie, who grew up exploring the wilds of the Pacific Northwest and the UK, respectively, and built a life around overlanding, gear, and the outdoors, the show dives into the people, products, and places that inspire us to push past the pavement.

From innovators designing the next must-have gear, to families chasing sunsets in a rooftop tent, to solo travelers finding themselves under a sky full of stars, these are the stories that remind us why we head out in the first place.

This isn’t just about vehicles or equipment. It’s about freedom, community, and the wild beauty that shapes us when we step outside the noise of everyday life. Whether you’re planning your first trip, living full-time on the road, or just dreaming about your next escape, the San Francisco Overland Podcast will fuel your journey.

Adventure starts here.

  • San Francisco Overland Podcast Episode #8 - OVS (Overland Vehicle Systems)
    Sep 18 2026

    EPISODE #8 🔥

We’re excited to welcome Sean Angues, Founder & CEO of Overland Vehicle Systems, to the San Francisco Overland Podcast.

Sean has spent more than two decades in the off-road and automotive aftermarket, from helping build and lead some of the biggest names in the industry at Smittybilt and Transamerican Auto Parts, to betting on the future of overlanding and launching OVS in 2018.

    And we covered a LOT.

We talk about Sean’s beginnings in the off-road industry, building major aftermarket brands, why he saw the overland movement coming, the creation and rapid growth of OVS, product development and manufacturing, what separates good gear from a logo slapped on a product, and where he believes the overland industry is headed next.

We also get into something we think a lot of people in this community need to hear: Have we become too focused on building the rig and buying the gear, and forgotten that the entire point is to actually get outside and have the adventure?

Sean brought decades of experience, some great stories, and plenty of perspective to this conversation.

    Episode #7: HitchFire

We sat down with Evan Currid, founder of HitchFire and Tepui Roof Top Tents, along with Justin Bergson, HitchFire's Marketing Manager, for one of our favorite conversations yet about entrepreneurship, innovation, community, and the passion behind building products that genuinely improve the outdoor experience.

From the early days of importing rooftop tents out of Venezuela and launching Tepui with little more than eBay, Craigslist, and a homemade website, to creating an entirely new category of hitch-mounted cooking systems, Evan shares the mindset that has helped him build not one, but two influential outdoor brands. Justin brings the perspective of joining an established company and helping grow it into a brand people genuinely connect with by focusing on authenticity, customer feedback, and telling real stories instead of relying on flashy marketing.

We also dive into what it really takes to build a loyal community, why listening to your customers matters more than chasing trends, the lessons learned from launching a company during a pandemic, the importance of getting outside and disconnecting from technology, and why "never stop swimming" has become Evan's guiding philosophy for both business and life. If you're passionate about overlanding, camping, entrepreneurship, product design, or simply hearing the stories behind companies that are shaping the outdoor industry, this is an episode you won't want to miss.

  • San Francisco Overland Podcast Episode #6 - Gold Country Broncos
    May 16 2026

Episode #6: Caleb Patterson of Gold Country Broncos

In this episode of the San Francisco Overland Podcast, we we converse with Caleb Patterson, founder of Gold Country Broncos, longtime California off-roader, expedition leader, and pit crew chief for Team 301 running the Baja 1000. From the Rubicon to Reno to Vegas, Baja, Moab, Colorado, and beyond, Caleb has built his reputation around real-world experience, self-reliance, and earning every mile.

Caleb shares how growing up on the mission field in Honduras shaped his approach to off-roading from an early age, learning to navigate jungle trails in an old diesel Land Cruiser just to reach remote villages. We also dive into how off-roading became more than just a hobby, evolving into an outlet for challenge, adventure, and escaping the chaos of everyday life.

    We also cover:

    • A near-fatal recovery incident that changed the way he approaches safety, recovery gear, and risk management forever
    • Why “the driver mod” matters more than expensive builds or flashy gear
    • Lessons learned from snow wheeling in the Sierra during whiteout blizzard conditions
    • The realities of leading group expeditions and how preparation can make or break a trip
    • Why airing down properly is one of the most overlooked skills in off-roading
    • The importance of first aid training, self-reliance, and knowing how to use your gear before you need it
    • The philosophy behind “earning every mile” and why the struggle is often part of the adventure
    • How Gold Country Broncos focuses on trail education, responsible recreation, and protecting access for future generations

Caleb keeps it honest, practical, and grounded in experience. Whether you’re new to overlanding or have years behind the wheel, this episode is packed with stories, lessons, and reminders that the outdoors demands respect, preparation, and humility.
