  • Detective Pikachu Week Twenty-Four: Watching As a Silent Film
    Jun 17 2026

Every week, the Poole Brothers watch Detective Pikachu incorrectly, but this week might be the most extreme example. This week, Harrison and Ethan sat down, turned off all the volume and subtitles, and watched the movie as if it were specifically made as a silent film. Does it translate without dialogue and music? What is lost in the noise (or lack thereof)? Are there other talkie films that would benefit from this type of watching? This is the most engaged the brothers have been with this movie in weeks, and you can hear their excitement.

  • Detective Pikachu Week Twenty-Three: Pitching the Sequel
    Jun 10 2026

For nearly seven years now, The Pokémon Company has been silent on any details of the possibility of the release of the sequel to 2019's Detective Pikachu. This week, the brothers attempt to pitch some ideas for that sequel, tentatively titled The Great Detective Pikachu. Some predictions include the reveal of Roger's mother, the big bad guy, an addition of another legendary Pokémon, as well as exactly how Harry might end up back in Pikachu's body. It's all speculative, but if anyone in Hollywood is listening, Harrison and Ethan are more than happy to help sit in on some future meetings.

    Jun 3 2026

Fresh from their midway check-in, Harrison and Ethan return with another genre fiction related, pseudo-academic episode breaking down the 2019 masterpiece Pokémon Detective Pikachu and how it fits into the cyberpunk subgenre of sci-fi. They discuss ways in which it takes from the tropes and how they differ. Ethan also explains to Harrison (and the audience) what solarpunk is and how Detective Pikachu might also be a possible entry in that subgenre. Despite being a movie made specifically for children, there is a lot more to Detective Pikachu than one might first assume.
