  • Episode 16 - Brady Halls on Retirement, Finding Purpose and Learning to Spend What You’ve Saved
    Nov 1 2026

What does retirement really look like after 45 years in the fast-paced world of television news?

In this episode of the Retirement Concepts Podcast, host Lionel O’Mally welcomes Brady Halls, former television personality and longtime reporter for Channel 9’s A Current Affair, to share his journey from a demanding career in journalism to life in retirement.

Brady opens up about preparing financially for retirement, paying off debt, and making sure he had a plan for life beyond work. But as he discovered, retirement is about much more than money. It’s also about maintaining friendships, staying active, finding purpose, and adjusting to life without the routine and identity that come with a long career.

The conversation explores some important retirement lessons, including:

    • Planning beyond the finances: Why you need a plan for how you’ll spend your days, not just your money.
    • Finding purpose after work: How volunteering, hobbies, exercise and social connections have shaped Brady’s retirement.
    • The importance of spending your savings: Why being too afraid to spend can mean missing out on the best years of retirement.
    • Helping your children while it matters: Why supporting family earlier in life can be more meaningful than leaving money behind later.
    • Understanding the stages of retirement: Making the most of your “go-go years” while you have the health and energy to enjoy them.
    • Getting the right advice: How financial planning can help you feel confident about spending the money you’ve worked so hard to save.

After decades of putting his career first, Brady shares how his outlook has changed and why retirement is an opportunity to enjoy life, reconnect with people and make the most of the years ahead.

If retirement is on your horizon, or you’re already navigating life after work, this conversation offers practical insights and a timely reminder that retirement planning is about more than the balance in your super. It’s about creating a life you’re excited to live.

  • Episode 15 - The No Go Years
    Oct 26 2026

Welcome back to the Retirement Concepts Podcast with Lionel O’Mally from Purpose Planning and Peter Graham from Redefining Retirement. This episode holds a special place in our hearts, as it was the last podcast Peter recorded with Lionel before his passing. In this final conversation together, Lionel and Peter explore the final and often least discussed phase of retirement — the No Go Years — and the importance of preparing for this stage of life with care, confidence, and dignity.

They discuss how the No Go Years can arrive gradually or unexpectedly through illness, declining mobility, or changes in cognitive health. Peter shares his personal approach to preparation, including his “final letter” to his children, keeping important records organised, and ensuring loved ones know where to find essential information. Together, Lionel and Peter highlight the importance of having an up-to-date will, an enduring power of attorney, and clear instructions about future medical care and personal wishes.

You’ll also learn how to plan ahead for aged care, understand the financial implications of care facilities, and make informed decisions before a crisis occurs. They explore ways to support brain health, preserve meaningful memories, and create a lasting legacy that goes beyond money — one built on love, thoughtful preparation, and the memories we leave behind.

As we share this episode, we also honour Peter Graham and his lasting contribution to retirement education. His wisdom, generosity, and passion for helping people navigate retirement shine through in this conversation. His message about preparation, family, and leaving a meaningful legacy carries even greater significance now. Though Peter is no longer with us, his insights and the knowledge he shared will continue to help and inspire others for years to come.

  • Episode 14 - The Go Slow Years
    May 4 2026

Welcome back to the Retirement Concepts Podcast with Lionel O’Mally from Purpose Planning and Peter Graham from Redefining Retirement. In this episode, we explore one of the most overlooked stages of retirement — the Go Slow Years — and why understanding this phase is key to living a more fulfilling life.

We unpack what the Go Slow Years really look like, how they can be triggered by health, mindset, or even lifestyle choices, and why many people unintentionally enter this stage earlier than expected. Lionel and Peter share insights on how to extend your more active years, maintain your health and independence, and avoid common pitfalls like underspending, boredom, and social isolation.

You’ll also learn why having purpose, staying socially connected, and making intentional financial decisions can dramatically improve your retirement experience — plus practical strategies to help you take action now rather than “later.”
